The 1 year on the letter came and went. 5 years actually did. United did the right thing. When the time came, before hiring off the street resumed. Those effects pilots -class canceled were kept and began indoc and training and those in the pool were given a simple re-interview -basically make sure no recent skeletons had come up in 5 years. (Failed check rides, DUI, Brothel Running etc)Getting your class delayed is a bummer. Getting it cancelled sucks. Getting furloughed really really really sucks. There is a lot of uncertainty right now. Control what you can control. There is a process to all this and for those of you in the pool at United there are people who have been in your shoes, made it thru,

is that hopefully the process? 100-200 of us are in the CJO pool hoping that if a year expires, we get first attempt at “I’m still current and I don’t have any arrests”. That’s my biggest stress. I have a job but hope I am still in line at United for a job when this turns around.

It sucks. But sometimes those affected first are affected least. Many of the pilots I knew who were in class when 9/11 hit rolled right into other flying jobs after turning in their manuals. Maybe not major (now legacy) positions, but they were flying and making money. The ones who had to stick around six months before getting furloughed didn’t find much in aviation.
Actually, they didn’t find anything. All the positions were taken. I was thanking my lucky stars that I wasn’t picked up by a major.
Of course when recalls happened I didn’t get one. I didn’t have one. And it took a long time before I got another chance.
Life is like that.
Hopefully this doesn’t last long.

MEC released this late last night, "...the global reduction in passenger demand has had a significant impact on our operation. An unfortunate result is a company-wide hiring freeze."
Very bad news for all of us.

Chillax dude. It's a pause in hiring. Besides. This freeze has been know for a week or more already. Not new news from the union.
