Few more questions from a newbie:
Can somebody on reserve pick-up flights?
If that is possible, can be done from another base?
As a line holder? Can 777 SFO bid, trade or pick up trips from IAH for example?
How senior or desirable is the only trip to Buenos Aires? IAH-EZE, B-777.

Thank you!!!

1. You can put in requests to pick up flying on your reserve days, 48 hours in advance prior to a certain time, I can't remember it anymore. We call this aggressive pick up.
2. You cannot pick up out of base on reserve.
3. Yes, you can pick up out of base, but it must be done the day prior.
4. No idea how senior it goes. It recently went to a reserve friend of mine on the 777 down there. Idk how sought after it is as it starts and ends with a red eye. I'd imagine it's pretty junior unless people like it for the commutability aspect. Some IAH person can tune in with more info.

If you end up selecting UAL over AAL congrats and welcome to United Airlines!

Note: 1. You can place the trade whenever, but the aggressive pick-up window does not start until 1100 the day prior, meaning the trip for you which you have placed a trade has to be open at that time to work. There are other caveats that about matching the days you have on reserve to the days of the trip as well, but it’s getting in the weeds. You cannot pickup trips on your days off except for (weeds).

There are probably 1M threads on reserve scheduling—it’s an encyclopedia of rules that you won’t quite get until you do it. I would read through some of them, though, paying particular attention to global reserve if bidding an aircraft that does international flying to know what you might be experiencing on your fleet.

People bid out at different times for different reasons. I don’t think it’s credible to suggest 6 months (minimum two vacancies) would go by without some SFO 737 FO moving to another spot. The world has gone upside down but “how many years to hold narrowbody FO in SFO” isn’t here yet

that is very true. But there are probably also some other folks ahead of any new hires that want to transfer into SFO. It will eventually happen. The main point is that I wouldn’t count on the same meteoric rise in seniority that has been the staple for all coastal bases in the past.

Meteoric rise is seniority and able to hold the place you want to live are different things. I agree the former may no longer be the case.

How long does it usually take to have a line in DEN for 737 or 320?

Likely within the first vacancy. Those usually occur every few months.
