As an outsider looking in, what sort of facilities are there for pilots doing airport standby? Is it provided by the company or are you out and about in the terminal with the passengers?

You just have to be somewhere at the airport. You can hang out in the CPO, the terminal, or wherever you decide you want to be.

This differs by domicile. The EWR CPO has a large quiet(ish) area with recliners, a dark room with recliners, and even a room with beds. IAH is similar IIRC. DEN is small and cramped.

Thanks for the replies. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. Are wide body reserves used more or narrow body, generally?

It has been many many years for me, but is that cafeteria down below the B/C connection no longer there?

Depends on the base, fleet, time of year, etc. You might have 10 unused FSBs in a row while someone at a different base gets used every day. The next month you will get used every day. Whatever anyone tells you about it is unique to their fleet and base at this moment. It will be different in a month or two. Any conjecture will be voided by whatever reserve rules are changed in the new contract.

It was a victim of Covid-19 and they can’t find anyone to operate it on the proposed funding from UA

It's been a while since I did it. But I would take naps in my car in the employee parking lot. Like has been said, you just have to be at the airport, it's not defined where you have to be. Some CP offices were using paper lists to sign in to keep track, but that is not required.
