I disagree. Having 90 hour lines for months on end creates periods of the month where you are near the buffer (95). A little over block here and there, your busting FAR and need to recrew a turn or a leg. This is mostly plannings fault. Forcing line values up to cover flying up to the limits does hurt the operation. You are seeing it now: “Cancelled due to Operational Diffaculties”

You’re completely missing the point. But sounds like you think we are staffed properly? LOL

The SSC reports are posted every month by ALPA you can read them yourself. For the last several years we have had less than 20 cancelations a month contributed to flight ops. For an airline the size of United that’s incredible. So yes our staffing seems to be right where it should be.

You should’ve let it go through the process...but you got your sweet premium so it’s all good.
Give him a little break. He said how close to departure it was and for SRM

20-H-5-c-(4) Notwithstanding Sections 20-H-5-c-(2) and 20-H-5-c-(3), within four (4) hours of the scheduled Departure time of a Global Trip and within three and one-half (3.5) hours of the scheduled Departure time of a Basic Trip, the Company may assign the Trip to any volunteering Pilot.

So the guy is in the right place at the right time to earn some extra coin, save the operation, not commute, get an extra day off and within the confines of the contract. Seriously? You’ve got a problem with that?

Jesus you guys are quick to jump assuming you know all the facts . It fully went through the process.

Went into Open time then
50 % add pay , then
100 % add pay , then
SRM calls went out . Then

All this while I was commuting up . So I called them seeing the chaos in the airport knowing they used all their resources.

It fully went through the process and lucky like other guy said I was literally just at the right place at the time on the right aircraft.

Move along

Seeing the same stuff and have to agree. Saw this storm coming months ago too. Can’t wait to see the July report, and the fact that they said early this year no more classes over summer and then abruptly added several speaks to the concern. I’ve seen multiple flights in my cat go out way late because of no crew. I’ve seen PPU sit for the longest time with nobody available. Finally it gets built for an out of base, with deadheads, and out way late. I was once timed out resulting in a cancel for no crew too. We are not staffed properly.

Just find it ironic that this thread is complaining about not hiring, then do things like that and wonder why

My original trip still had to get covered by someone else ? Mostly a shift in timing if anything .

So what is your ideal hiring environment ? Enough to where no one flies above 80 hours ? I mean where do YOU drawl the line ?

meant to be a serious question .

They are hiring a ton right now!
but you would rather see the whole thing fall apart, **** off passengers, have another pilots schedule get messed up, commuters and non-revs not make it home or to work, pay other airlines to fly our passengers to get them to their destination....

But instead bash a guy for doing what is allowed in the UPA?

Well, you must admit that history IS on his side. This is just a rewind of a rodeo he's already attended, and likely more than once. And some pilots WILL do myopic stuff that will erode the unions bargaining power while they line their own pockets.
