We could get that exact thing now. Just tell your MEC reps that you want the DL profit sharing, so to get that you are willing to give up 49% of our existing international flying to JV partners, and just take a revenue share. Sure we will lose about 1,500 WB jobs, but we will get a few more $ in profit sharing.
In the next downturn, when there’s no profits, neither Delta nor United will be getting profit sharing checks, but we will still have a WB fleet that 2X the size of Delta’s. And I’d rather take the bird in the hand vs the 2 in the bush.

Always amazing that there are pilots who say-
"Look at Delta" for only the good stuff, and don't realize that our two airlines operate differently and both have their good and bad.
Sure, we will (probably) always make less than Delta, from a Profit point based on what Sunvox pointed out.
I think more pilots should look at the Contract Comparison that we, Delta and JB put out in the past year and see where we actual exceed some of our counterparts.
Yes, there are areas where we need major improvements (Sick Leave and LTD top my list), but at the end of the day I ask you all this-
If you were at Delta instead of United, what would you be flying, how much credit would you get vs. actual flight hours, how would your QoL be and at the end of the day.. do you think you would be happier their then here.
At the end of the day, I know what I credit every month vs what I actual fly. The only place that I can't put a price on is when I deadhead and get to board early, get a aisle or window in Eco + (and if not.. I get a 50% add on for that leg for sitting middle seat).
I don't believe I would be making the same credit for the same hours flown if at D.

Yeah but in the economic downturn a fleet of 2x the widebodies could be troublesome for us if we can’t fill premium seats on thin markets and fuel prices stay high. I’d still rather take my chances with more WB’s vs DAL profit sharing now with the new United fleet of mostly fuel efficient planes that aren’t absolute monsters in capacity like the 747-400 was can help soften the blow of an economic slowdown. None the less it will be interesting to see how nimble we can be in a recession with the current fleet structure we have.
Obviously this isn’t positive or fun to talk about. But at least no one will lose their jobs as 787 and 737 Max’s replace older aircraft. Just my opinion

We are in a much better position for a down turn. Senior management has pointed out that we can return double digit leases (ie Park aircraft) for the next 5 years or so. Aircraft deliveries will not stop. However I could see the 756 and the bus fleet get parked and a hiring freeze during a downturn.
