Continental use to do that trip from Newark with just two pilots.
Talk about being tired!
Back to the thread topic....I wonder how long the company plans to keep the 767s especially the 300s?
Also what do you all think they will be replaced with?
In a perfect world where Boeing wasn’t so focused on the crappy max I was hoping that they would have made the 797 and 787 or the 757 and 767 Max... respectively to replace the 757and 767.
Now Boeing lost yet another 7 billion to Airbus for having no option while trying to push the abomination of the max 10 to replace the 757.

The A350 is too big according to the company and they just keep kicking that can down the road. My guess is deeply discounted 787’s courtesy of the Max fiasco.

This airbus order was a good replacement for the 757. I wish that they would replace all of them with the bus, but they won’t. They needed something to cover the Atlantic flying that the 757 does. The 321 will do a great job while the max 9/10 do the rest.

Quite a while, it seems.

They are all getting the completely new interiors with Polaris (only a handful left to go on the -300s then the -400s start.)

Meanwhile the -300s are the only airplanes in the fleet that fit in many existing UAL gates around the system. For example, they fit in the alley in ORD. This is a BIG issue until the new ORD terminal is finished in several years. Sure, they could use the exterior widebody gates, but then UAL loses a place to park an actual widebody. Repeat the same problem at other hubs.

Since the NMA appears dead, it would be interesting to see if Boeing would do a 767 MAX. The cargo carriers seem interested, FWIW.

Quick replacement with small 787 or A330s would present the same gate issues in the short term.

Since UAL is boxed in and the airplanes are fully depreciated it seems like UAL is happy to keep them flying until something changes.

One whole time?

How cute......

I’ll agree though any Hawaii DEN all nighter is a ball buster. These are the amongst most fatiguing trips you can fly at UAL.

After getting surplussed off the left seat of the bus in 2010, I spent 5 wonderful years on reserve in DEN on the right seat of the 757. Not only did I do these trips on an almost constant back to back basis, they were a 3 day that paid 11 hours.

Good times.

But the best of the best was the time that I got docked for a day when I didn’t answer my phone in time after getting home from a LIH DEN. The screw desk called at 11:00 that morning, I had my ringer off because you know, sleep.

Don’t fly fatigued! And don’t get more than 3 hours of sleep!

Good times!

That’s about as much fun as the old freight dog days. Continuous rest until the phone rang at 10:00 PM to start your multiple leg, horrible weather, 16 hour duty day on a plane held together with MEL stickers. Good times.

I suspect that's exactly the plan.

There was a conference call or interview where SK said UAL was looking at different lay flat options for the Max 10. Since the thing can't make it across the Atlantic, PS seems like the likely target.

That would make total sense. Delta is upgrading 757s to 767s on their PS flights, so we should downgrade ours to the PS guppy. Will really screw things up the next time the fleet is grounded.

I agree, hopefully not! I hope we stop at the dash 9
Maybe they will use the A321s or the 767s
