Agreed.
Aircraft order announcement and a flowery update from the system CP........aren’t we in section 6 negotiations right now.....?
Rhetorical question.
Don’t loose focus. IMHO, the company needs the 321. They also need more 76 seat to compete downrange.
They buy.....we fly. If they want more 76 seat aircraft the avenue to get them exists presently.
NO gives on scope. It has NEVER benefited the mainline, EVER.

Last SSC report basically said we are going to be hiring to staff training at max capacity for the foreseeable future. If you count retirement in the next 12 months, we are going to have to hire 1,500+ pilots in 2020 to staff that many planes. That number jives with the 4,000 new hires by 2022.

UAL warned Boeing a couple of months ago about the NMA. Either launch it or we go Airbus 321XLR's. Then that week Boeing delayed the NMA yet again.
If Boeing doesn't get their act together with the NMA, they are conceding that segment of the market for a very long time.
I wouldn't be surprised it we, UAL, reduce or cancel our Max 10 orders. That airplane is an abomination--in favor of more 321's, about the time our A350's are due? What is it now, 2027?

Pretty interesting how some are really excited about this news.
Falls right in line with the companies playbook about shinny new toys.
Reality is, these are replacement aircraft. Not Growth.
And while it's great that the company has a plan to replace older aircraft.. where's our Contract?! Coming up on 2 years of negotiations and nada.
Luckily we have these aircraft grouped together.. A321/B752. Unlike American and I believe Delta.
So when we get them in 2024 and we are still operating under our old contract, it won't hurt as much!
And now we have the announcement about a change up top.
hmm
Interesting times...
Motch
PS) Anyone know what the thing flies at?
If it's .81 or greater, that's something to be careful of. Company has already stated they will look at using this thing as a European Aircraft.
Look at the schedules of the 78 out of EWR. Guys who switched over to it from the 765 BES are now working harder for the same amount of money. LOL
If we don't have protection in the next contract, the A321XLR will be doing 2 man euro stuff vs the 3 man we do now.
ANYTHING ETOPS, at night.. needs to be 3 man. Just my opinion.

Otherwise, it's the same wing as the rest of the 320 family except for internal structural differences common with the other 321s.
So, no, it's not a .81 airplane and the initial cruise altitude at those high weights will be shockingly low. It would otherwise cause chaos on the tracks with its long range cruise speed, except it will be flying below everything else for most of the profile.

Pretty interesting how people like you are so negative about aircraft replacement considering all the other growth aircraft on their way. Can’t make everyone happy.
