Maybe it’s a trial balloon to judge reaction from a certain cross section of the pilot group. Isolate the widebody guys and put the fear of Joint Ventures in their head and saying something needs to be done to protect your seats at the top of the food chain. Tell them how it’s good trade off to protect the highest paying seats by allowing more feed with an unspecified number of 76 or 90 or 100 seat RJs for our Express co-workers. They need these field trips to tailor the next steps of the sales job for a TA that’s probably already done.
I hope I’m wrong. It’s happened once before.

Not saying that a sell job won't come at some point.. but since we don't have a TA in sight (at least, none that we know of), the P2P spin up may (hopefully) be a way to talk to the pilots and "remind" them that we don't have a contract yet even, after 2 yrs of negotiations, and to Fly Smart.
I honestly don't think that there are enough "senior WideBody" guys to sell out scope just so they can stay on the top of the pyramid.
One only has to look over at Delta and see what JV's do.
Please explain to me the scenario where the union puts out a TA that sells out scope on the bottom end while just keeping scope on the top end the same? Makes no sense.
Now, if we had bad scope on the top end and were losing International WideBody flying.. you might have a point. But the exact opposite is true. We have strong scope on the top, and seems on the bottom too.. and we are growing our widebody fleet and our international destinations.
What is this 'Trade off' you speak of?
Seems guys are fishing to why the union is trying to put out comm. And slamming the union for thinking out of the box in a way to get to other pilots besides just meeting in the domiciles. I for one welcome this announcement.
But I too believe we may be a year or 2 away from a TA. Hope I'm wrong but time will tell.
Always
Motch
Oh, and FS, FP & FtC
PS) There is also a fair amount of 75/73 flying that goes to HNL. So it's not a widebody target audience~

Keep in mind, a good chunk of those "WB guys" are also very junior FO's (ie.. Post Merger New Hires) on reserve who get the ****ty trips to LHR.

Motch,
I was just thinking out loud. I’m not sure what purpose these roadshows serve considering there is no TA to talk about yet. It’s too late to be telling them what’s important to us. So what is motivating these meetings? I doubt the P2P guys will have much info to offer because they don’t have access to the inside scope. I would love to see their daily reports on how many pilots they had contact with.

Remember, the negotiating committee has just one job: to get a contract passed. And that takes 50% plus one. For me, if there aren’t serious changes to reserve rules and hard stand on scope, it’s a flat out “no”.

We wouldn’t be here if the MEC had voted down the last midterm wage deal extending the contract when we had leverage. Unfortunately SFO,LAX,ORD,IAD, DEN, and SEA shot it down 4-9 but EWR,CLE,GUM and IAH loved it and voted 8-1 making it pass by a slim margin.

But there won’t be jack to vote on for years to come so settle in boys and girls.

I applaud the P2P guys getting the ball rolling. There is a lot of misinformation out on the line, rumors about giving on scope. I think this is an attempt to quash the rumors and put out some facts. Lots of the new guys are getting frustrated with the perceived lack of action. Me too for that matter. It's hard to get information without negotiating in public.
I see one of 2 scenarios:
1. Oscar wants to get the contract done before he leaves--great. Yeah!!
2. I think more probable, Oscar leaves, we go for another couple of years with Kirby spouting relief on scope.
The one saving grace is I hear Kirby doesn't like Parker over at AA, and if we had a decent contract, labor peace, we could really put a hurt on AA competition wise--Since Parker has gone to war with his employees, it'll be pretty bad over there for quite a while. It'll be up to Kirby if we miss this opportunity.
Also, I wouldn't read too much into the outstation P2P guys. My bet is the union is taking advantage of some guys on the wide bodies doing P2P while on trips, and will be at the domiciles later next month.
Not everything is a conspiracy....well maybe....

Your passive-aggressive skills are lacking as well, at least have the guts to say what you mean.
