Not true for UAL. We hired a lot of Eastern, TWA, and Pan Am. They are all retired and gone since it was their second airline career later in life.

Yep. Ask a rEAL pilot his opinion on DAL.

Not all gone: MN on the triple in SFO was a former PanAm Berlin 727 dude and is a hoot to fly with. Amazingly, he still has about 5 years to go.

Thank you for support. It means a lot to us.

United has always been my dream airline, and when I picked TSA 5.5 years ago, a huge reason why I picked it over other regionals was because they flew for United Express. That was a couple years before CPP and Aviate and there was no defined pathway to United at that time, but I figured flying United's passengers on United planes into United hubs would be a great first step in my airline career.

We know it's a long shot, but we'd really appreciate the opportunity to interview at United (especially those of us with competitive flight times). We are very thankful that other regional carriers are reaching out to help us gain employment, but at the same time the idea of starting at the back of line at another regional carrier is tough one.

Thank you again for you kind words and support,
You're always welcome in my jumpseat.

You're right! I was paired with a former Eastern captain last month and over a beer, he told me a few stories. Good history!! He walked the picket line there before getting hired at UAL.

I had no idea that Randy Babbitt was the only Eastern pilot hired by Delta.

As it turned out, that same day I met yet another Captain that was former Eastern. He guessed there were probably 75-100 EAL pilots still here at UAL.

Learned a lot talking to them.

Your first post rambled without much background and asked for unity. United pilots responded with unity and pointed out that there’s contractual language that applies this situation as unfortunate as it may be.

Now, you assert that the pilots affected don’t meet UAL hiring minimums/qualifications. I’m lost, what is it you’re looking for here?

My new hire class was predominantly Pan Am, EAL, and Midway refugees (the rest military). To gain their industry insight and wisdom has been a highlight of my career. Those guys are the rEAL deal.

For a long time, we had a bunch of Eastern guys teaching in the training center. That was fun. Glad to be there, lots of great stories.

Always a few stragglers...mostly gone.

How about we say, enough is enough. Trans States shuts down but the aircraft go to Express Jet who's aircraft go to SkyWest?! Talk about a shuffle.
Who gets screwed?! The TSA pilots.

Not to be a dick, and I can empathize with the TSA pilot's situation, but these were aircraft that were taken from XJT a few years ago. XJT has lost over 70 XR aircraft to TSA and CommutAir over the last 5 years or so. The TSA aircraft are simply coming back to XJT. In exchange, they are losing 175s to SkyWest.

The reason that XJT can't staff what they have is because of the screw job that SkyWest put them through over the last 10 years. The aircraft slowly got whittled away and many senior people, who probably would have made a career at XJT, had no reason to believe there was a future, so they left. Many FOs jumped at the first opportunity to leave - some going to TSA and CommutAir for the quick upgrade.

XJT is hiring street CAs - I'm pretty sure most TSA guys will be OK.

XJT ALPA just signed a new contract with substantial pay increases, including protections for TSA pilots. What a nice gesture by UA to increase XJT pay in this current environment. This is great news for both pilot groups!
