This happened almost a year ago today. Continental joins the list of dead or acquired airlines. Good riddance!

And now everybody on this forum understands the arrogance of Legacy United “Brain Surgeons”. For the folks that haven’t lived it, this is how legacy united pilots think. Everybody who doesn’t think United is the best was “rejected” by United. You would have to have been retarded to choose United over CAL in the ‘05-‘07 timeframe. United was headed towards a third furlough and bankruptcy. Look at the SEC filings.
They were lucky that Continental bought them. “On March 31, 2013, United merged with and into Continental, with Continentalcontinuing as the surviving corporation of the Merger and as a wholly-owned subsidiary of UAL.”
On the off chance you are not familiar with why Legacy United has the industry moniker of “Brain Surgeon”, it’s because they bestowed this upon themselves. During the attempted acquisition of Frontier in 1986, the United MEC started that United pilots were “Brain Surgeons” while the Frontier pilots were merely “General Practitioners”. Nothing has changed since then. There was even a Legacy United Pilot given a 30 day unpaid holiday for screaming “SCAB” at an ‘05 hire Legacy Continental pilot in IAD. This Brain surgeon was so outrageous that he screamed this repeatedly and long enough on the train and then up the escalator that the Captain was able to call the FODM. The rant was caught on a recorded line! Lol! The ‘05 hire was not a scab btw. The LUAL furlough surgeon was simply upset that he didn’t become a narrow body captain straight from cashier at Walmart.

Sorry but you are an ignorant D Bag...Forget 05 to 07. What airline would you have chosen (assuming you had a choice) in 2000???? 5 to 7 YEARS before your illogical time frame. Also, YOU should understand the reason that the CAL certification was maintained at the merger. It was strictly because it was far easier to do that as it included (apparently you) the Air Mic operation. If you take a look at assets at the time of the merger, UAL was far and away in a better position.
Again, learn your **** and stop being a complete D Bag

Blah, blah. Remember Smisek jumping in last minute with “Wait, don’t marry the ugly girl!” What if he hadn’t jumped in? I wonder what the grievances of an AA / CAL merger would have been like. APA vs. CAL ALPA, sorting out the JFK plus EWR market share, two huge hubs close together in Texas. What a fireworks show that would have been. Oh well, you’re stuck with us.

Serious question: Why don’t I read a thread like this each month (I’ll admit it has been a while for us here at United) from Delta pilots? They had a similar merger with NW. Heck, you don’t even hear the old US Air pilots at AA sounding off anymore like we the former CAL and L-UAL on this board. Relative seniority VS Longevity VS Career Expectations were all components argued for by the respective merger committees and the arbitration went very close to the L-UAL proposal. Not sure who the flame throwers on the CAL side are here in this thread but most I talk to (former CAL) have left this in the rear view years ago. I understand the frustration the ‘97-2001 L-UAL guys/gals have towards the CAL 2005 hires that got a good deal in the SLI. I would feel the same way (and may yet still one day when we merge with another carrier with younger pilots). This displacement, and the subsequent downgrades and furloughs is a real downer. I feel it too but let’s not let this event cause us to turn on each other 10 years after the merger that made our two airlines stronger with the ability to weather this better than we would have standing alone.
