Downgrade

Serious question: Why don’t I read a thread like this each month (I’ll admit it has been a while for us here at United) from Delta pilots? They had a similar merger with NW. Heck, you don’t even hear the old US Air pilots at AA sounding off anymore like we the former CAL and L-UAL on this board. Relative seniority VS Longevity VS Career Expectations were all components argued for by the respective merger committees and the arbitration went very close to the L-UAL proposal. Not sure who the flame throwers on the CAL side are here in this thread but most I talk to (former CAL) have left this in the rear view years ago. I understand the frustration the ‘97-2001 L-UAL guys/gals have towards the CAL 2005 hires that got a good deal in the SLI. I would feel the same way (and may yet still one day when we merge with another carrier with younger pilots). This displacement, and the subsequent downgrades and furloughs is a real downer. I feel it too but let’s not let this event cause us to turn on each other 10 years after the merger that made our two airlines stronger with the ability to weather this better than we would have standing alone.

Just some FYI, no 05 hire things he got a good deal. They all think they got screwed. Only some legacy united pilots think they made out well. Pretty much everybody thinks they got ripped off except for the guy who ended up number 1. . An 05 hire lost around 15% relative seniority. And yes I realize relative nor date of hire are part of the merger policy.

Not saying they made out, but when some would start complaining about being screwed I’d just reply with how I wished I’d would slid over to UAL at 10 year pay with 07 pass travel DOH instead of ‘15 and got to enjoy 3-5 weeks of vacation a year after my close to a decade flying UAX.

I flew with many of ‘05 hires, many good dudes, but screwed they were not. They’ve barely spent any time on reserve since hired, slotted in with 97 hires, and kept their express longevity for pay, pass travel and vacation.

Where did you get this information? Maybe 1/3 of the 05 hires came from Continental Express and of those that did, less than 200 kept longevity for pay or vacation. Heck, the reason given to me by several 20 year plus original COEX pilots I’ve flown with for not “coming over” in 2005 was, wait for it....the pay-insurance-loss of vacation etc. The 113 or whatever the group was called took longevity with them I believe but there were reasons for that and I’m sure someone more fluent in Continental/Continental Express will chime in with details. That is one hell of a broad brush in which you are using bud.

As you’ve stated, many someone with intimate knowledge of the details can chime in dot the “I”s and cross the “T”s. The fact still remains that’s one helluva deal for those who fell under it.

Came from the dudes that flowed up. Many have corroborate similar details. As to how many fit under that category don’t know and don’t really care. I have no dog in that fight being a post merger hire.
