The latest flight ops Q&A on FT seems to say different.

that’s correct as this all falls in the timeline of the loa grandfather rights. Lots of positions will be filled through those rights to hold your pay protection rights. The company will also save a bunch on training costs. They know what their doing.

Looking forward to the first snapshot to see how far apart the vacancy screen percentages are and potential awards. I also wonder how many would really bid back to a displaced seat. I know that as a commuter, I’d rather be a pretty senior line holding first officer than a reserve captain. The people who had their BES close have it easy. They just bid their old seat and don’t have to worry about pay until the LOA terminates.

are you asking how grandfather rights work?

If you are then it’s basically this:

let’s say you are a 97’ hire and prior to this mess you were a SFO 787 FO.
now let’s say I’m a 2015 hire and prior to this mess I was a SFO 320 CA.

I will get SFO 320 CA back before you can bid for it because you are a new entrant. Grandfather rights protect those who got bumped. It’s a great deal for some and a raw deal for others.

bid what you want want what you bid.

If you’re thinking DEN 756 FO look at your min/max spread. Unless a lot of bodies move out on this bid I wouldn’t expect any secondary awards.

FWIW, the far right column on the Min/Max sheet for a category show if secondaries will be awarded. There are some 756 categories eligible.

Correct! However DEN 756 FO is not one of them. So unless Husker was interested in a Captain spot, I would be surprised to see anyone get into DEN 756 FO on this bid.

Is the min, a ‘hard min’ meaning that if for whatever reason >20 DEN 756 FOs went to a different BES, the company would be obliged to fill until it reaches the min?

I get that part, the OP seemed to suggest there was some sort of conspiracy. Grandfather rights are spelled out plainly in the contract and are easily explainable as you correctly did.
