Exactly, that was my point. I don't expect them to remained unfilled on the final, but to have any at all on a snap is news and then the total number being 29 adds to the headline.

Many of the countries in Asia still think that one case of the virus is absolutely unacceptable and will remain in lockdown until it’s 0 within their borders, and they will go back into lockdown anytime the case count goes above 0.

Then go look at what’s going on in China, politically. They’re capitalizing on this as an opportunity to lock their country down and keep people out… doubt they’re going to be receptive to opening back up quickly when they can keep taking our money without letting us in.

The 777 may be trending junior right now due to uncertainty w/ the P&W aircraft, the depressed Asian market & a resulting artificially high G-line. IOW, people who would normally be bidding onto the fleet as line holders are holding off presently to avoid reserve. (And especially, in many cases, to avoid COMMUTING to reserve.) Once all aircraft are back online & put into service, I’d expect a lot more of those hesitant bidders to start funneling in. It should be abundantly clear to everyone here that WB FO as a junior pilot is not the place to enjoy rapid seniority progression, but perhaps even more so presently. Conversely, if you’re new and want to fly the airplane (with full understanding of all the caveats), now would be a good time to slide into the seat.

As to the unfilled seats, I’ll give it a few more days before the snapshots start feeling very representative of the potential award, but my understanding of 8-C is that the company MAY offer unfilled bids to new hires, but is not under any obligation to do so. There will be plenty of EWR/SFO NB FO slots to fill new hire classes for the coming months, so I think all new hires can expect that as a strong possibility. (Though that’s to say nothing of what you may be able to do on the first vacancy that comes out once you’re already on property…)

Great point! If I ever decided to pull the trigger I’d probably consider pre owned to be honest. I’m slowly starting to think the GT3 MT while in incredible car might be one I’d be afraid of tracking. Perhaps a pre owned GT4 Cayman might be best of both worlds for a great driving experience that I can feel ok with driving on the track. Lots to think about for this bid and future driving experiences.

Where were the G-Lines traditionally before covid for the 777 in SFO/EWR?

right about 80%.

I agree that the 777 is going junior due to uncertainty I know people who are not bidding it because they don’t think there will be any productive flying on it.

the company also doesn’t need 777 FOs until next summer. I agree that the 777 will most likely NOT be offered to new hires. They will put another bud out in JAN to try and fill the spots. After that they will need to give anything remaining to new hires.

Great post and reflective of how I’m feeling after a day or so of pondering the 777. I’m showing 60% after day 2 and I just don’t think I’m ready to give up seniority on the 756 for a whole lot of unknowns with that fleet for the next 6-12 months.

I would be very curious to know what crew resources plan will be if the 777 closes with 20-40 unfilled slots. Will it be offered to new hire classes or try again on the next vacancy for pilots like me that are still not sure if now is the time to give it a whirl. Either way I’m loving all the possibilities for everyone on this bid. I can’t believe how the landscape has changed here over 12 months.

Hah!

Yeah, I've always done pre-owned myself, but finally got to a point where I can consider a new BGTS 4.0 as a daily driver and DE car. I'm a huge fan of the Light Weight Buckets for track duty as they can accomodate a 6 pt harness, and the GTS is the lowest level car that offers them.

Who has experience . . .

Sure would be nice if this MOAB was followed by some news on the contract front as well. Not like we haven't been waiting a while or anything
