But it will be much harder to catch if someone went through the trouble to copy a valid existing card - which isn’t all that much trouble with literally 200 Million cards out there

My information wasn't initially found in the database, even when I called. I sent in an image of my card and they corrected their database. Same issue with my wife's vaccination ... her last name was misspelled.
We finally sorted it out and now it all checks in the database.
I doubt this was the case with these two; they probably bought fake cards on the internet.

Faking the QR code with your details is the hard part.

How many saying the alleged fired new hires were stupid, if they forge that they shouldn’t be here in the first place, or support companies meddling in employee’s health care information, would want the FAA to contact every medical practice they visited the past six or twelve months? How many didn’t meet the requirements to exercise the privileges of their medical certificate but still operated an aircraft, even if they simply failed to call out sick? I’m sure there are a few who are straight as an arrow. But, I’d say the overwhelming number of pilots haven’t been exactly 100% truthful over the course of their career in those regards. It’s awful hypocritical to call them out if you yourself have elected to effectively participate in the same practice.

So following your logic:
don't take any drugs until it has been around 20 years because "we can't be sure" - guess you'll never want to fly a plane designed in the last 20 years.
Calling a drug experimental doesn't make it so. The day it received emergency authorization it stopped being experimental, no matter what you say. You don't have to be signed up for a trial to take it = not experimental.
We don't control other countries and they are going to require vaccination records/passports. Turning off social media doesn't affect other countries and the policies they have. For a company that generates as much revenue from international travel, I'd think you would want a pathway to re-capture that market share when it is available.

When you mandate that drug, that becomes an issue.
A Faustian bargain.
