I don't know the name of the person behind the 'oldmako' profile, but I do know a compilation of self serving BS when i see it. I'm sure typing that validated his choice to leave early. I hope he's happy and that his choice was the best for him, however I don't see his purpose is cobbling all of those statements together and claiming it's a coherent position of ANYONE. Enjoy your retirement and wish us the best as we do for you oldmako.

Don’t conflate one’s reasons for leaving early with speaking of the mindset that at times surround us. It doesn’t serve you well.

I think it’s quite coherent. It explains why we just crawl along and always accept what we’re handed. Twenty years after bankruptcy and we’re still living under provisions of that era.

The path we walked in the last 20 years requires more effort and understanding that the clever soundbite that makes you feel so good. I understand it quite well.

Hopefully this time will be different. History says otherwise.

My main gripe with the old mako, et al is that they’re not here to have a conversation. They’re here to reiterate the opinion they formed 20 years ago and condescend those who don’t agree with them as naive, Marvins, company men, or whatever. Secondly they’re here to offer people who agree with them praise and other social rewards for agreement, rather than nuanced or informed opinions.
We all have our own reasons for coming to work and different things that make us tick. Thinking one person’s priorities should be universal among our pilot group is beyond juvenile and lazy. The cable news style rhetorical flourishes are getting a little tired. If you want a locker room /CNN style “the best one-liner wins,” have at it, but I’m pleasantly surprised at how many people are interested in forming their own opinions

A piece of the environment that has clouded over us. Odd that you don’t recognize it when it’s all over message boards, cockpits and used to sell extensions and LOAs. I’d feel a lot better if it wasn’t true.

What I DON'T think is that there are a bunch of pilots willing to work for free, who beleive the company can't afford to pay us, that passengers will be upset, etc... Thats just nonsense.

We just disagree I guess. I believe there are a group of pilots who wont even vote. Then there are pilots that will vote yes for anything that gets them a pay increase. There is another group who will vote no regardless of the agreement. Some are easily swayed by the argument that the company is lurking around every corner waiting to screw us....but just as many think today's positive status quo will continue their entire career. The vast majority of pilots will read the agreement and decide if the gains are worth the cost of biting before the profit forecasts come to fruition. Theres a reasonable range from no - yes and we will each decide where we fall. I wont fault a 'no' voter for feeling that it could be sent back for a quick $$$ boost and be back for another vote in 3-4 months. I also won't fault a 'yes' voter who thinks a recession might change the company calculus in the next few months and doesn't want to risk stagnating through a recession before seeing another TA.

There most definitely is a subset who feel the company cannot afford the raises that would make us whole for 3.5 year late agreement and inflation factored in.
Again he never said the passengers “will be upset” but rather “oh the passengers”. Not sure where he was going but I will add I’ve heard “you can’t increase ticket prices to pay for our contract.”

He didn’t say bunch. I will argue there are pilots who when faced with a dire economic situation would work for free. Heck, I know of some who would happily vote someone else a pay cut to save their job. But I digress.

If Kirby wants to steal CAs from the AA Wholly Owned, he’s going to have to match their pay. $150/hr for new hires and 40% pay raise across the board to keep parity what AA is paying 50 seat RJ pilots. It’s a tough pill for some people to swallow but that’s the cost of talent acquisition from the regionals in todays market, where 50 seat RJ FOs coming right from a cessna make $90/hr.
