Part of the problem is their hypocrisy. Desperately grasping at straws as they approach 65, one thing this group claims is they are trying to save the US flying public by preserving essential air service around the country, which truly does have a shortage of pilots. There are plenty of EAS providers who’d love to hire them. Will any of them apply there, or would they even apply at a regional? FAT CHANCE……..

With AAwholly-owned‘s hiring direct entry captain with full longevity from your previous airline and an instant check airman paying over 400 an hour I’d say yes.

They can allow 67 year olds to fly in other countries without impacting the age limits those countries set for their own pilots. Various countries have age limits for their own pilots between 60-62 on the low end all the way to no limit on the high end.

So member states can continue to do what they want, as they have already been doing for years, with some states allowing ICAO pilots to operate at a higher age limit within their airspace than their own pilots can.

The path of least resistance for the ICAO bureauracry would be to raise it to 67 to avoid a hot mess for their most significant member. If enough other member states protested vehemently, then it could become contentious.

Think of ICAO not as city hall but rather the board of a condo HOA... and the US is a rental corporation which owns half of the units in the building.
Okay, so is any of this based on actual precedent, or is it just a "feeling". I see a lot of people confidently talking out of their ass about ICAO but what I don't see is a lot of written history or precedent to justify how 100% confident they are that ICAO is at the U.S.' beck and call.

And again like I said before, the people doing the diplomacy are the ones who don't want this increase to happen. Why would our diplomats press foreign states to do something the POTUS doesn't agree with?

Nucflash probably isn't aware of current regional payscales and policies.

That wasn't where you were going with the comment, but not every turning age 65 pilot is on a WB. Many are on NBs.
