Different situation. 744 was getting old, was wildly expensive to operate and maintain, and had no real viable replacement.

The old 777’s are still profitable, and would be maintainable were it not for the Pratt engines.

There are 8 retirements scheduled from now until 1/30.

Do those 8 positions just get filled from a secondary vacancy? Or are those 8 positions covered by the 27 vacancies? Thus meaning there are only 19 “new” positions created.
Those 8 retirements have nothing to do with this bid. Its possible they were included on the previous bid. On the October bid it will show some similar number, and most of those 8 will still show up as "retirements schedules from now until..." just like last month's bid also showed "retirements until 12/31" which means September, October November and December retirements are all double counted.

I don’t think they have officially retired those 3 777s… They are just parked…

However Boeing is requesting an extension to the timeline to come up with a proper repair for the PWs fixes from FAA.

there doesn’t have to be 767 flying in a certain base for 767 flying to be replaced by a 787.
Agreed. Given that they’re advertising 27 CA/88 FO on SFO 787 and the min/max for SFO 777 shows that they’re willing to lose 10 CAs/70 FOs, it’s pretty clear where the flying is headed long-term.

Question is… what flying? If it’s the Pratt 777 stuff, that may not be much of a windfall for the 787 bubbas.

like I said 20+ of the next 787 deliveries are going to be first class heavy so heavy premium markets will go to the 787. Yeah LHR/HND might not be exciting but it’s the flying that’s coming. Along with SYD.

people say the 787 can’t do what the 777 can with cargo but if the majority of the plane is First class and Premium economy you can put a lot of cargo and make a lot of money just like the 777.

it’s not going to be the domestic stuff…..the SFO 777 pilots are going to be the ones losing out.

supposedly 24 of the next 26 are being delivered with a high first class layout and low economy. So my guess is that they will replace the 767s in the same configuration and probably the 777s flying to high priced destinations (HND/LHR/ZRH/GVA/TLV/SIN)

then those planes will backfill be retired or fly somewhere new. The oldest 767s hit their HMVs next spring……that’s 20 frames.

That makes a lot of sense. Some of those 763s are almost 35 years old and seem like they are having issues. Didn't know about the three 772s.

This is a pretty cool site with lots of interesting information about the fleet.

If it truly will be 777 flying shifting to the 787, all the SFO777 pilots (especially the FO’s) need to make sure they understand the contract WRT to a lateral move and equipment freezes, vice waiting it out for a displacement bid and what comes with displacement rights.

I don’t disagree but I don’t think there will be any SFO 777 displacements. the 787s aren’t coming fast enough to outpace attrition.

there are enough senior trash bag jumpers that the FO list will shrink from the top. Also there are a ton of “new hire” 777 FOs who have been riding 2 years of reserve I’m willing to bet we see enough Junior 777 FOs take the CA bid in NOV.

and if none of that happens the company has shown they are not afraid to crew other bases flying from over staffed bases.
