"The redeployment of 747 flying will result in the closing of the LAX 747 base and the re-opening of the ORD 747 base"
Closing the LAX 747 domicile will displace 60+ pilots. The LAX-SYD flight already shows a 777 starting in April-ish I believe.
THese bufoons can't get out of their own way. Like Sid pointed out, they closed ORD 747 and bumped everybody all of a sudden this year. Now, they are going to re-open it which could displace about half the SFO 747 pilots. That's 230 guys right there. These schedule changes are in Shares, so they can displace or do a sheetload of DH/TDY.
Just my 2 cents
the new, nice Sled

CAL did this kind of stuff for years. It was compensation for the "friends of Fred". Guess they don't know a new Sheriff is in town. Hope the MEC has a handle on this. After the combined MEC's take office we'll see a more transparent bids and results.

It's cheaper for the company to have an overstaffed base rather than to bump CA's out of a seat, especially with expected retirements and growth.
The crappy UAL aircraft will be phased out slowly and allow for retirements and growth to minimize the effect of the demise of the old and decrepit planes UAL brought to the merger.
Reserve CA has actually been pretty good, pay and quality of life is pretty good. I and many of my contemporaries would not care if we sit reserve, it might be better than having a line in some cases.
The next option for us, if we were to get bumped, is to bid 787 FO where they're making as much as 737 CA with more days off due to the understaffed situation on that aircraft, I believe the fence will even make it harder on the company since you will have to find CAL pilots willing to commute or move to the liberal, high taxed communist state of California....

How exactly does one "strut" around? Does walking through the airport as a young captain to Famous Famiglia mean you are "strutting"? Or is is just though an envious observers eyes?

That's cute - when the consolidated MEC takes office. I think the keyboard has done a good job of exposing the CAL MEC as being dysfunctional, inept and generally as puppets of Jeff. Wheather it's my keyboard or one of the many that believe in Unionism, the truth always find a path to shine through. Ask Tony!!!
