Just judging by the numbers compared to DAL and AA where I know dozens of reservists getting hired at each and I know a single person at UAL.

Yeah...I have to agree. Certainly not "Tons of guard/reserves getting the call." But I'm just basing that on on the most recent classes. I was the only "current" mil guy in my class, not counting the retired returnees. None of the Guard/Reserve guys I know have been called. In fact they've been saying UA is kind of an unknown...valid.

Their first or second choice hires them before they get to their third choice?

One issue affecting guard/reserve hiring could be the recent litigation that UAL went through with MIL leave pilots. There is a significant added cost to have MIL leave pilots on the books (PDAP while on leave is a big one) When given the choice of a non-MIL qualified pilot and a MIL pilot that will be taking Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July etc off for the rest of their career for "duty" it makes the decision easier. This is a bottom line business and the added cost is surely baked into the pie. In addition to the fact there are so many qualified regional pilots that have experience in airline flying could be a big reason there might not be as many MIL pilots getting called as before.

I haven't seen this posted yet, but it appears to be emails, not calls now. I received the email followed by the Hogan test this week. Now my entire day is spent wondering why stars twinkle (I hate you hogan test!!)

For the mil folks, keep the faith! I'm mil, so it appears they do still love us! After waiting almost a year I got an email from AA and UA in the same week.

That is a fact. Saw interviewees in their regional uniforms the other day. My class had numerous regional pilots, and they were very sharp. I asked Doris to look up my 3 mil buddies. She commented on their low hours on all 3 of them. Hours is a big requirement, apparently, with UA. I can see why, training here certainly depends on a pilot's previous "glass" experience.

Guys are doing interviews in their uniforms now? Thought it was suite and tie only.
