I've had more than one fellow UA pilot brag about their abuse of mil leave over holidays and other manipulations. Maybe it was just cockpit bravado but some guys enjoy telling the world how they have lied about mil leave to be off.

For every guy that is doing true service there are others that aren't. Believe it or not just because someone was in the military doesn't mean they are the paragon of virtue. I want the company to keep everyone honest.....even the Mil leave guys. As long as calling isn't against the law I don't have a problem with the CP verifying that someone is where they said they were going to be.

Unfortunately for you, military service impacts more than just "me and my family." It's an inconvenience to private corporations (like United), and an inconvenience to the other employees. If you think you have it bad, imagine being a pilot at a small corporate flight department where one of the 4 pilots has to deploy.
That's just part of the costs we all must shoulder to further our national objectives.

As soon as you submit a doctor's note for every hour of sick call that inconvenienced anyone else, you can say it's cool to "check up" on Guard/Reserve guys in the off chance that one of them may be fudging their days. Pathetic. I'd say they're entitled (by Federal law, if not by common sense) to the full benefit of their mil leave. They aren't retired yet, so save your grandstanding for the kids on your front lawn. Thread drift indeed.

Every employee should feel accountable for Sick List. Call in Sick too many times and you get to produce a note for every time you call in sick. That is irrespective of your background.

Sick leave is a contractually negotiated benefit. I honestly don't care what you use it for. Use it or don't. It's your right to use as you see fit.
I wouldn't be arguing the companies side...
