Kirby was in Denver ops a few weeks ago. Said will likely kick the 350 can down the road one more time to 2026 and then do a compete with Boeing for 100 aircraft to replace aging 772s. Prefaced with being big Airbus fan, but competition would get best price for either.

It’s interesting how many times this is going to get kicked down the road considering that the 350 was a package deal with Airbus for the airframes and Rolls-Royce for the engines. I would have thought that one of them would have told United to take delivery by now. My guess is that in 2026 the A350 will still be in question and the company will still be looking for a 767 replacement while complaining about the backlog of orders making future delivery years away. At least the inconsistency is consistent.

FWIW, I suspect that one of them DID do exactly that.

UAL recently wrote-off significant deposits related to undelivered aircraft but unfortunately was not more specific. Given the potential suspects, and the airplanes currently being delivered, I’m gonna assume it does not involve Boeing or GE.

Here's the text from the financial statement:
"Other: For the three and twelve months ended December 31, 2018, the company also recorded $26 million ($20 million net of taxes) and $66 million ($51 million net of taxes), respectively, of fair value adjustments related to aircraft purchased off lease, write-off of unexercised aircraft purchase options and other impairments related to certain fleet types and international slots no longer in use."
- AND -
"Termination of a maintenance service agreement: In the fourth quarter of 2018, the company recorded a one-time termination charge of $64 million ($50 million net of tax) related to one of its engine maintenance service agreements."

From a very reliable source, myself and many others were told these charges were unrelated to the A350 program. However, the same source said the 350 instructors are not hanging around in Toulouse as much as they used to.

FWIW

Are we still planning on parking the 757s as the Max10s come online?

It cost only about 10,000 dollars to lock in a widebody delivery position. It’s a firm order on paper but very little financial damage to back out.

It's been announced that we are parking three 757-200s this year, I've read elsewhere that one was already parked but don't know if that is accurate. That is it for retirements so far, but I'd expect some more next year. Also parking 4 320s and 2 319s this year.

Not that big of a bummer. We’re still having a net increase in the fleet of just over 30 planes for 2019.
