I still would have chosen UPS. There is a lot here to complain about, especially as a pilot. However, the company’s conservatism means that it’s a rare economic downturn that puts the whole company at risk. We are the big gorilla in our market space and are far more diversified than any pax carrier. Who also face far more competition in their market space. It’s tough to find a thirty year stretch at any pax hauler over the last fifty years where you wouldn’t have faced furloughs, bankruptcies, wholesale liquidations, retirement destruction, and mergers. UPS had been successfully navigating the business world decades before a small crop dusting outfit named Delta opened its doors.

It’s all just a question of trade offs, pros and cons. Time will tell who got it right. I feel ya though.

The grass is always browner. Many of us would love to be in your situation.

Care to share what some of these daily battles are? Seems a bit dramatic

As of the IPA August 2020 Pilot Demographics Report, 61 of 2,975 IPA pilots (2%) were under the age of 35; an additional 232 were between 35-39.

35 Captains in 20-06 had less than 10 years of service; 8 of those Captains are under 40 years old.

Additionally...

The airline grew 11.4% in airframes between 16-06 and 20-06 bid periods. Block hours grew 28.9% over the same timeframe, and the IPA pilot group grew 15.6% over the same timeframe. By the end of 2022, the airline will grow by 54 airframes - nearly 23% - since October 2017. More than 1/3 the pilot group will mandatory retire this decade.

But yes, there are battles fought constantly by the EB on behalf of the group (subcontracting, schedules, vacation allotment, etc.) and sometimes individually about hotels, catering, denied premium payments, etc....

You know, I started typing a long list of items, and realized Brown can be very vindictive, decided not to post publicly. It may seem dramatic to some, the old timers know just how vindictive Brown can be, ask any Brown pilot about the female pilot and the cake story 😳.

The cake story is pretty good. Posting it’s a daily battle and you couldn’t do 30 years on a new hire thread didn’t sit well with me, maybe I need a nap.

Nobody should listen to this donkey and his waffling between overly dramatic complaining and saying it’s a great job.

Is UPS perfect? No, but it is a good job with great benefits flying with some excellent people represented by the best union in the industry.

You’re really going to say, “Every day is a constant battle” to people who want to work here? Do you know what some of these folks are currently going through? They might be getting furloughed or wondering if they are going to get furloughed. Their company might have already gone out of business. They might be away from their families 17+ days on for a fraction of the money. They might be helpless employees for a company with even worse management AND a crappy union that doesn’t fight for them. Maybe they are junior captains at a regional working sub-par 4 days over every single weekend and holiday with no movement in sight.

It is grossly inappropriate and insensitive for you to be so dramatic on a forum for people interested in working here. If you want to complain about how bad your life is because catering messed up your order then do it on the Bar and Grill. Better yet, describe some of these daily “battles” in event reports, and maybe something will get done about them.

"Everyday battles" is a bit dramatic. Maybe he/she considers having to call inside because you need more ice or something is a battle. It's not perfect and we have our challenges, who doesn't? Just remember it's nothing personal, no one cares about you but you, and enjoy your time off.

Geez, you guys been sippin’ the Brown KoolAid or something? The guys and gals staring at a furlough need the real low down on jobs they are considering, not some embellished lip service. There’s some validity to what C2078 posted. This job is basically a big 5 contract at an ACMI shop. There are some
great things here, like our union, but overall I’d say it’s OK. Maybe even good on it’s best days. Certainly worse places to be. Furlough looming or not, do your research before coming here. Boiler himself has posted on here more than once: “UPS is not for everyone.”
