How does that work out for the other 20 to 30 years?

Why you only focused on the first year? Once you leave Atlas and come to Ups or Fedex, you'll see that the benefits and pay are better.

This. Brown is dumber than owl-poop in a lot of ways, but I think they're on to something with first-year pay. If you can't math good or see the extrapolated advantage of getting paid more TOMORROW for a pay-cut today, maybe you're not the guy I want sitting next to me when we're trying to figure out a fuel problem.

Don't get me wrong, I wish it would change, and I think it will, eventually. But there's an undeniable filter-effect that is (imho) a good thing, so long as this is a top-tier job. The question is how to keep it a top-tier job which people are willing to sacrifice a year of pain to attain.

It absolutely was. And we didn’t have to pull anything from savings until month 10, pretty much as we budgeted. But unfortunately not everyone is in that position, and the 1st year pay may be a big enough deterrent to maybe focus on somewhere like FedEx.

Not even close to true. It's no different than any other part of the contract, open to negotiation. We have our list of things where we are immovable, they have theirs. The market is going to have to end up moving this one.

1st year as you know is just to get them to cross the line and get a year or two or three before they’re caught, cleaned and fried ready for your Brown waters or Purple Kool aid. For the rest of us the compensation isn’t terrible with the opportunity to pile on a few more clams and a few other ways not to burn out not easily found everywhere. No real optimizer, more like a demoralizer for some. Definitely a niche outfit and it’s all about priorities. Can’t have three mortgages, new avionics in your 2nd plane, 2 X’s on the payroll and four in college with the other two 30yr olds still living with you. Our $ doesn’t jingle, jingle, it folds - your $ stacks!

Oh, got it. You are direct, I appreciate that - No worries here. Some things are priceless but most things come with a price. May we all be able to afford what we need bare minimum and also what we want if at all possible. Hopefully everyone finds their happy place much better than Lloyd Christmas and that’s all that really matters.

When UPS decides its time…and not a second sooner…there’s theory and then there’s reality.
