70 ANC captains? I'll guess 2015 hire.
I know ANC sucks but I don't think will go that low. JMO

We already have a B747 base in SDF. It probably has Captains hired in 2015-17.

The B.S. is getting pretty deep around the Brown water cooler. Be careful where you step.

They must need more guys flying extra. These domicile/upgrade rumors always seem to spread when staffing gets tight. How ironic ...

Default Inquiring minds want to know.

Any guesses when new bid will come out.... Isn't the company forced to put out new bid if they plan to continue to hire through peak when all of the 301 newhire FO's spots are filled from the "mega bid" of early 2017. They must be getting close to that number.

Not a snowballs chance in Anchorage. Plenty of 06-07 who aren't bypassing in ANC that will take it.

The network will control manning requirements. As of now, the network plan for the 747-8 entry only includes the first eight aircraft. As such, the need for the aircraft in Asia will preclude any SDF 747 base for the near term. The one SDF-CGN route the 747-400 will pick up next spring doesn't justify a crew base in SDF.
How the network deploys the remaining 6 747-8's, coupled with the new 747-400 sim possibly being located in SDF could justify a crew base in SDF. The sim will be ready next spring, but no available sim bays in SDF or ANC.
Still think there will be 777s in SDF before there are 747s. And making a statement like that virtually guarantees there will be a massive bid for a SDF 747 domicile next week.

This logic ignores all the existing routes that can be manned with an SDF 747 base. SDF-ANC & SDF-HNL, then onward from ANC and HNL. With long pairings everything that is flown by ANC could be flown by SDF, and hopefully get rid of these stupid ANC-SDF-ANC turns in the process. Its a matter of more layovers at the ANC Marriott and less at the Galt House (another plus).

And I'm sure another 40 Captain slots on the other fleets. So probably 110 new Captain slots total through 2018. The lost of IST/TLV cost the IPA 8 upgrades on Z alone. The penalty is peanuts and I feel it is weak. It should have been triple the amount. Then maybe UPS would really push for a slot. They make a whole years monetary penalty in one day.
