But back to the point, why would they need out and backs with a SDF base? 3 747s leave SDF to go to ANC, then they go onward. Why couldn't they have pairings that start in SDF and route SDF-ANC-XYZ, then do that in reverse? Something like that could be done with an SDF base. It might not get rid of all the out and backs but could reduce them significantly.
...With SDF-ANC being the harder of the two legs it would be nice to get that one out of the way first. In addition I think it would be easear to get two sleep cycles in ANC than at the Galt House. Go to bed at the Marriott at say 7:30 am, sleep until 1pm, be up all afternoon and evening, close down some of Anchorage's finest watering holes, go back to bed at 3am, get up at 11:30 for your afternoon flight to SDF. Sign me up!

I guess in early October we should know what the plan is? (allegedly)
I'm betting on a new A330 order with crews being based in Almaty, Kazakhstan at the Borat House!!

Can anyone elaborate on what kind of qualifications all civilian new hire have been having? I'm at 4k total 1500 tpic and 121 LCA 4 year degree. Considering bailing for atlas or another cargo carrier to boost my chances but I will take a big hit on the flight time per month.

I believe civilian hire TT average is in the 8K ballpark.
That said, 4,000 TT with 1,500 TPIC and status as 121 LCA should make you somewhat competitive.
Jet or turboprop? That seems to matter; I think there have only been a small handful of civilian turboprop pilots hired recently.
