I did. I left Delta after 6 years to come here. Of course, 2005-2007 were different times in the airline world. Back then, a lot of legacy guys were bailing from the big boys and coming to fly boxes for stability. Now...not so much.
Atlas is like UPS' farm team. Most are happy to be here, although a few have a hard time getting over having to be an F/O again, even though by year two they are making more than they were as a senior Atlas Captain, plus way better benefits and retirement.

looking for opinions, I'm a regional FO about 7-8 months away from upgrade. I end goal is to get to UPS. I have a little over 2000 hours with no PIC. So my question is this, would I be better off upgrading at my current regional and racking up PIC time or try to get on at Atlas now while the hiring mins are low and get some wide body international time? which does UPS consider more valuable?

My current plan is to upgrade and stay put till I get about 1500 PIC and if by then I haven't gotten a call from any of the big five I'll make the jump to ACMI.

You absolutely have to punch that 1000 PIC ticket. Period. Atlas will still be around in another 2 or 3 years if you don't get the call after the PIC is racked up. Understand that getting on at UPS is highly competitive and without that PIC you're not going to get a call with zero PIC time and a 747/767 type. To make matters worse Atlas's 767 pilots don't fly much, so while you'd be 2.5 years away from the left seat of the 767, it'd probably take you 3 years to get 1000 hours in it. That'd put you 5.5 years away from getting a call from a company like UPS. If you punch the PIC ticket at your regional you might be 2 years away from 1000 PIC. Then go to Atlas.... 6 months at Atlas and you'd be out the door.

Regional guys going onto a domestic fleet essentially just have to learn a new a/c and some minor SOP differences - it's the MIL and corporate guys who might find the transition to 121 not quite as easy.

For the guys keeping tabs on hiring quals, it would be helpful if we could elaborate on Atlas based newhire backgrounds. I know a few that put in 5-8 years at Atlas before coming to brown. A bunch of regional folk bailed and put in a year or two before getting the UPS interview. A few were at intl carriers (ME and Asian contracts) and went to Atlas to get back stateside. I've heard some MIL and corporate guys went for various reasons. And there's the real freight dogs bouncing around companies. Perhaps one of the atlas guys on here could offer better insight...?

Agree with everyone else here. Get the pic!!!! 1,000 at the very least, maybe 1,500? and ONLY THEN try for Atlas or any major airline.

So yes, apply at Atlas BUT also at other heavy jet operators AND at every single major airline. Your chances will probably increase if you apply from lets say delta to ups versus regional XYZ to ups. I have no scientific data to back it up, just what I've seen amongst some mutual friends.
One of them had been trying to come here for years. Job fairs, recommendations, more job fairs, you name it.. He went to united, updated his ups app shortly after his IOE was competed and he got a call within a week. He's now off probation here at brown. I believe that some recruiters LOVE to "steal" pilots from major airlines.

Over 2300 Mil PIC, but 1400 of which is Instructing in T-34C. This puts me under the 1000hr PIC Jet/Multi. There's no real spot for me to include all this time since the app only asks for Jet/ME Turboprop other than in my total time - thus probably not making the computer sort for being competitive.
Suggestions on how to list include this PIC? Fill out the app as asked and have my UPS "sponsor" talk to HR?

Also how to you edit/update the app after it's been submitted?

I was a 10 year regional captain with 8000TT and about 2400 TPIC. I went to Omni for international heavy experience. I was at Omni for 6 months when I attend a job fair and spoke with UPS recruiters. 6 months later I was in class at UPS. The path that works best is a MINIMUM 1000 TPIC and then Atlas or Omni. You can message me if you have questions on path. I'm all about trying to help people get on at UPS but I don't like posting on forums.

This is a very easy answer. The UPS pilot application system is not designed to pick out specifics such as pilot credentials. Go to a job fair. I repeat, go to a job fair and talk to recruiters. I can't emphasize this enough.
