First off, you don't know if she has been claiming she was drugged and threatening a lawsuit all along. Wouldn't be the first time a company made an exception under the threat of a lawsuit. Second, she said in the article:

“I wanted to get back in the cockpit flying before moving forward with anything,” she said. “Now that I have, I am.”

Sounds like it wasn't a done deal that she would get back to work.

This.

Anyone with half a brain after getting a 6 mo PAID leave for violating substance rules while on probation would lay low for awhile, if it were only that. They'd be thankful, even. This is not that scenario
Wouldn't be the first time someone, after getting a break files a lawsuit. Happens all the time.

Any guy who cheats on his wife deserves public shaming. That's a much nicer proposition than what my wife says should happen to a man cheating on his wife.

So yes, you are victim shaming.
No that was not according to the company's lawyer. That was what the FO and her attorneys SAID this attorney told her. Neither the investigating attorney, nor Alaska have said one thing about this. Further according to the FOs statements, since you want to take them for gospel, she claims the Captain told her no sexual contact occurred. All she knows is she was stoned out of her mind and woke up with her pants off in a bunch of vomit.

You need to get a little skepticism, and quit buying what one side in a lawsuit is trying to spin you with, and spouting off about some guy and his family when you really don't know anything at this point except one side of a story.

Can you think of any good reason why a married man should be bringing a female workmate into his room while both of them are intoxicated? Do you think that looks good for his case?

As far as I’m concerned, the guillotine was invented for just this kind of individual.

Whatever the case, please, enough with the exclusive sanctity clause and righteous exclusions for a particular sex or profession. People are people. We come in all colors, shapes, sizes and yes, behaviors. There are no all/none absolutes in life; anyone who tells you otherwise is either a fool or a liar.
I get out plenty during my 18-20 days off a month. All over the world in fact. And I also choose not to participate in hateful, grossly off-color or discriminatory language at work. I'll never turn anyone in for offending me because I don't get offended. but I don't pile on either. When not at work, my wife and our friends use plenty of distasteful language. I just choose to keep personal in my personal life and professional in my professional life.

Maybe because she was so intoxicated she could barely function, and in his drunken stupor he was trying to look out for her while she was vomiting all over his room? Obviously you've never been a wingman when you're out with a buddy that gets totally **** faced and you try and help them out. Ever been to a frat party?

I'm not saying this guy is a saint. Which gets back to what I said earlier about staying away from alcohol and mixed company on layovers. Just too risky. When people get seriously intoxicated, they do things they would never do while sober. They may not remember things, they may remember things very differently the next day. They will swear up and down they would NEVER do something they did while intoxicated, even when you have video evidence to the contrary.

I can safely say this, after having been around a few legal cases in my time, and spent a little time in family court before I started in this profession, I would seriously caution taking one side of this as gospel before you hear it all, particularly the full context of the Alaska report, not the excerpts from this FO or her attorneys or what they are claiming they were told. This case has some major holes in it, hopefully that will be filled once you see what Alaska found in its investigation.

That's nice, however it's not the point, is it? No one is arguing your propriety in refusing to participate in offensive ("hateful, grossly-off color, discriminatory") discussions.

Your contention was that female pilots don't openly engage in distasteful /vulgar/sexist conversations. Again, I beg to differ.

Safe travels

The guillotine was invented for people who may have cheated on their spouses?

News flash: it happens. I've heard it from both, many times. I tend to lighten things up so maybe I invite a more relaxed setting but yes, happens more than you appear to believe.

No innocent groups. Women, of all professions and walks of life can be as guilty as men. Like men, there are those who act like professionals and those who don't.
I should have been more specific as far as what I was referring to. Of course female pilots make crass, vulgar, sexist remarks. Probably the crudest crew I flew with was a mostly female MAC crew in the military. That was so much fun. No holier than thou here.

I was referring to this comment: "They think NOTHING of not caring if you overhear them talking about who they want to bang and describing which FAs they'd like to combine to make the "ideal female." Oh yeah, all young women more than half his age. Tasteless and disgusting."

You may hear all sorts of smack talk, but I'll bet you've never heard that from your female cockpit crewmembers!

Lol. Or a great many other places. I seriously hope Mr. Guillotine and a great many other posters in this thread never find themselves in the position of performing their civic duty on a jury. The thought of that makes me want to exclaim “yikes!”
