AS and VX didn't make sense, yet here we are...

Is the one they have that's stuck on 1998 not good enough anymore?

At some point, even a simpleton has to realize that the Alaska brand has gone as far as it can go, hell maybe farther than it should have....

Alaska Airlines will NEVER be a household name. Never.

As much as I always thought the merger was going to be Jetblue and Alaska and I would have loved to be a part of it, why would anyone think Jetblue and Alaska are going to possibly merge now? Specially after Jetblue made such a strong offer for Spirit. That will be a headache trying to figure out the product for many years to come.

Didn't say there wasn't a reason for it, just that the reason is not apparent at face value.

Why did this pop up after the F9 merger announcement... did NK engineer that to stave off B6?

Made perfect sense to keep VX out of B6's hands... AS would have been in deep doo-doo.

AS is in deep doo-doo now. B6 wouldn't have bought an airline and not know what to do with it. We watched AS effectively kill VX routes, kill the growth, and basically shrink the airline. An effort we are still watching to this day. The combined operation is continuing to shrink, not grow.

AS spent billions of dollars in an effort to prevent being bought and yet have almost fallen out of the top 10 in terms of size of US airlines.

Heck, that buy an airline and dump everything they had has been an American Airlines trademark for decades. AA pioneered the illogical acquisition game.

I would not be surprised to see an AS/B6 merger because AA needs both of them for the codeshare. Lord knows, American can’t grow our domestic feed, that requires foresight and commitment. Instead, we will piggyback a few international flight out of the codeshare growth.

I commute on both airlines. I enjoy the product. You guys criticize your own airline a lot, and I get it, but I am treated so much better on both airlines than on mine. That’s why I can’t see the Spirit deal actually making it all the way through without a major overhaul of how spirit operates. It’s raisins to watermelons.
