"Or the good advice that you just didn't take"

Coming here is okay if it's better than where you are now but do NOT stop here. Keep your log books updated.

Stop with the Alanis Morrissette quotes. I can't stand that jagged little pill.

I have 7500 hours total, 3600 jet PIC, 17 years of SEAK flying, internal recommendations, no black marks or red flags, and I live in Seattle. In 6+ years of trying, I can't get an interview. (Actually, I got the interview before the interview, at which they told me I'd get a call "in a few weeks". Then they freaked out, stopped hiring and forgot all about me.)

Just apply at the next opportunity. It's simple, takes almost no time, and costs you nothing. There's no reason not to apply. They call who they call. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Every Alaska crew I've jumpseated with says they don't know how it works either.

If you're in SEA, surely you've heard of this little airline *one word* up there called Delta? Hoping you've applied there in the last 6 years?

I know it sucks to jump through hoops, but if you're still interested in getting the call here you have to get a chief pilot meet and greet, and have to go to career fairs.

I only had time/money for one career fair but I did talk with Alaska peeps while there... unfortunately the HR person I spoke with at the meet and greet quit shortly after and then it took around 2 years to get the call for an interview. I was sending the chief pilot that I did the meet and greet with updates every 4-6 months in a friendly/letter format just letting him know my updated times and progress towards becoming an Alaska pilot.

All in all I think it took like 2-3 years after my meet and greet to get the call for an interview.

Pilot shortage is a laughable term when we hire so little... it is still competitive and your times look good, so unfortunately i think its the jumping through hoops that they want to see. Bugs me too.

Default 2020

The most recent 10k filing shows 2020 net fleet growth of the mainline fleet to be exactly zero. +2 boeing/-2 Airbus. I would only expect hiring for attrition fir 2020.
