People that have self-respect don't like doing jobs that are not their own, who could have known? Maybe the pilots here who are throwing bags and buying food for passengers and cleaning up other messes of management's creation could learn a thing or two from these people.

Alaska Airlines has never and will never struggle to hire qualified pilots….Pilot hiring and pilot attrition will never move the CBA needle here. They may not get the volume of “box checkers” that they have been shooting their mouths off about…They never put their money where their mouth is. They will quietly fill the small number of vacancies required and go about their business. Don’t be so naive as to believe that we compete for pilots with real majors with real contracts. We don't and we wont.

It would appear that all hands are not, in fact, on deck. People that have self-respect don't like doing jobs that are not their own, who could have known? Dude the last email from management was awful. FO Cowboy slinging bags in the heat because rampers were passing out. Before “saddling up for his redeye?”
JFC!
Are we just going to throw away the little safety culture we do have here? I’d be all over this if I was AS’ POI. This isn’t how major airlines operate. Then again we aren’t a major airline, we are regional feed.

It is silly to have an application window. Especially when the company is a lousy one.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK... The best thing is to get a copy of our current CBA and read it!!! Read it carefully and thoroughly then make a decision. I advocate not to waste your time applying here. I further disagree with people telling anyone to come here and get a type rating and then move on. Because, to assume you can move freely at anytime to go to your dream airline is not smart. Back grounds or not, contacts or not... it is stupid to assume you can get hire anywhere at anytime. Value your time and efforts to places that actually is a place that you can enjoy and have a good career.
My colleagues on this forum have made many warnings, they are not lies or nonfactual information. The cool-aid-drinkers never explicitly provided any valid information as to why come to alaska? They only made mindless comments about... if it is so bad... why don't you leave, or that it is all complaints? These type of comments means they have already lost any arguments as to why you should come here?
Again, if this is your childhood dream job, a yes-sir type of guy/gal, likes to work for free and work hard for your money, etc. Then, as many have stated, this is a place for you.

Reading some of these posts, I don’t see the point of being POed to the point of stroking out at some point in the future.
The only leverage you have is to leave. There is no and will not be an attrition or hiring problem. There won’t be a strike, no NMB or PEB is going to allow a work stoppage for an airline that is critical/sole service to a state like Alaska. Why would they give anything? Those with lower seniority and age who can afford to leave for the big 3 can go. But a lot of people have too much seniority to start over and are hitched to this wagon for good. The downside of a seniority driven industry. It kills leverage.
Personally, I’ve set my own realistic expectations. YMMV. I don’t expect a new CBA until 2024-5 and have budgeted current payrates for the next three years as CA and worse case as FO. I don’t go on water cooler or use Pulse much. I’ve abandoned Alyeska and trying to abandon APC (not quite there yet). I go to work, fly, enjoy the overnights, etc, and then come and enjoy family time. Rinse/repeat. I’m not going to stress about things I can’t control. I’ve noticed I’m far happier this way.
Those who want to come here, welcome aboard. My only suggestion is to not commute because this really isn’t an airline built for commuters. My sympathies are fully with the commuters here, especially the mid west/east coast guys who had a base closure and face a transcon (some 2-legger!) commute. I wish it didn’t have to be this way, unfortunately none of us can control their business decisions.

Astute observations….Alaska is a bit the imposter of airlines…They do employee relations and contractual obligations somewhere between Mesa and Allegiant. They do public relations as though they are United. They tell their customers that they operate at Delta plus one. In the end it is a job that works well for some in each base… Locals that come with money, legacy kids and people that have other work. It works well for most retired military pilots….It works well for pilots on their way to the majors. And, there are the rest of us who find ourselves just working for a living. The other groups do not worry much about contractual quality or contractual administration. It has created the environment that has allowed the CBA that we work under to remain virtually unchanged in at least 25 years.
We end up with unity in name only…Definitely not an airline worth stressing over….

Edit: I think this was all an overreaction - upon rereading this I take it to mean that if anyone needs to add more hours to/edit their app, they are still free to do so. Still wouldn't tell anyone to come here though
