This debate really doesn't matter because, as I predicted when the merger went down, the Bus will be off the property just as soon as the leases expire. The Anglers will sell the owned ones quickly (if they haven't done so already) to the highest bidder. There are plenty out there.
So, ex-VXers, instead of bad mouthing the mighty 737 you might use the energy getting ready for bidding over or upgrading. The Bus is a dead man walking at AS.
On the other hand you might just hold on. When the MD finally went away, the training department wasn't able to handle the transition and the last MD pilot finally started training in March when the last MD flight was the previous October. Talk about having the holidays off! On guarantee no less.

Every pilot at my airline, including myself, all prefer deadheading on small airbus vs 737. If everything else is about equal, here is my booking preference for single-aisle:
A220
ERJ-170/190
757
A319/32X
ERJ-195
737
CRJ 7/9
CRJ
Small ERJ
And, if I'm on a short flight, I would rather fly a CRJ7/9 than a 737...
I like Alaskan, overall, but now try and avoid them, because of the 737, and it seems that they are almost no different than any other carrier.

I didn't want to get flamed, but yeah I prefer the 175 to the 73 as a pax too.

I'm not saying we didn't have our struggles, but it's not unusual for start-ups to not be profitable for a few years... sometime many years. It all depends on the business/exit strategy. Cash flow/paying your creditors is sometimes all that's important in the beginning.
In VX's case, we were a privately held company for the first few years. During that time, the investors were making money hand over fist (20% return I think, in the super low interest rate environment of 2008 onwards) while VX showed a "loss" on the books.
Creative corporate accounting is used all the time by smart business leaders in pursuit of a larger strategic business objective.
I don't know if this was one of VX management's exit strategy, but we clearly saw them pivot to fattening the pig (solid profits in the books) and then quickly selling us off for a princely sum to the highest bidder.
And the rest is history...

We went public in 2014 and I think we were profitable for about 2 years prior. We also continued to be profitable after the IPO and the AS deal..
So without the financial gymnastics, profitable from 2013 onwards....about 6 years after start-up...
We had a super aggressive growth schedule for the first few years, so it was understood that the profits would not come right away. Of course, the crazy oil prices in '08 didn't help either..

Because we work with a bunch of yes men morons who have voted out any benefit that could possibly exist to them. Thus only people stupid enough to live happily in such a terrible work environment while watching their peers soar as they bend over for the company could be happy to get rid of mainline aircraft.
We have the pilots at Alaska more than about 8-10 years to thank for our employment with no job protection, inferior scheduling, and miserable work rules.

It's a head scratcher. My theory is that misery loves company and that legacy AS has been taking it in the shorts so long that there's a bit of schadenfreude whenever anyone else comes and joins them in the mud- even if it costs them progression as well.

Sadly it looks like I will have to agree with you.
Just watching this discussion devolve into Bus’ vs Boeing it is very evident that what you say is true.
Who cares what we fly? Show me the QOL, show me the money.
Show me a base I can afford to live in...

We are not getting rid of airframes. We are relacing Airbus aircraft with terrible lease rates with brand new 737-900s and soon to be MAX9s.
