Not sure how big a threat these jackasses were but the incident did delay and inconvenience all the other passengers, plus there was additional operating costs to the airline of probably several thousand dollars. Something about a group of young men being together that sometimes emboldens them toward bad behavior, even without alcohol being consumed. Would be nice if the judge gave them some jail time plus fines of $100 for each passenger, just to drive the point home.
I'd like to see them try this on an Allegiant flight. Their flight attendants are usually no-nonsense kind of folks, even polite passengers often get a less than friendly response.

Our MD80 that did a high speed abort on 8-17, algt flt.#436 in vegas had a a missing "cotter pin" on the assembly that failed. That's our stellar contract mx. Lowest bidder. This captain saved the day, but he's one of our most experienced captains on property. We have many new hire captains on the md80. Had there been a lesser md experienced captain. Well, everyday that goes by is a day closer to our Valujet a new.

That certainly is debatable. The bigger question is why is it something so simple as a cotter pin was left unattached to a primary control surface by our contract maintenance?
