While any maltreatment towards new hires has traditionally been nonexistent, I believe G4Troop was alluding to a shifting in that direction as the pilots' strife is about to get remarkably worse. It may happen, it may not. I have quite a bit of contact with new hires and believe me, they have done their homework and know what they're getting themselves into.

The rest of Troop's post is 100% true. By keeping that "just better than a regional" mentality, they will have a healthy supply of new pilots for the immediate future all the while ensuring that these pilots don't overstay their welcome. In the next few months, this company will be losing captains who have been here the better part of a decade or more. What will be the mood at corporate when said pilots give their 2 weeks notice? My prediction is restrained jubilation due to the higher cost associated with such longevity now going out the door.

I agree with CLMP. Me thinks the underlying message troop is getting at is that the company has crushed 2 unions by replacing their members and is trying to do the same with the third. Some points may be arguable but the mood has definitely taken a huge swing for the worse recently and guys are fed up. The part about management's agenda says much of the logic has merit. Uninitiated happy new people lining up to fill the openings for cheaper pay only reassures management they are succeeding. It's public knowledge that unions are not welcome here. If people quit applying because of the state we are in it might force the company to get real. Otherwise I don't see any fire under their a$$ and they have every reason to delay and do the legal minimum for years like they have been. Senior pilots leaving is the goal. Just like the flight attendants only better because they don't even have to offer buyouts! I don't think it will matter much because the rate of departures is going to pick up a lot now that most have given up on this place. There's no way our joke of a training trailer will be able to keep up.

Someone once asked Frank Lorenzo when he was going to pay his pilots more.

"When you make me," he is rumored to have said.

What makes you think new pilots will stop applying to allegiant when there are plenty of people applying and getting hired at places like gojet and psa? I think you have a point if that were to happen, you would have stronger bargaining power but let's be realistic here.

True, it's perplexing to me that guys qualified to work elsewhere are risking their careers and family applying to Allegiant. They could just as easily apply at a quality airline like JB, WN, Spirit that cares about their employees. Or, wait for a legacy. It's only a matter of time before all airlines will be fighting over minimally qualified pilots.

If senior captains are jumping ship, how do new guys feel they're gonna get treated?

If you look at past history of this thread, people looking to come to Allegiant don't believe it's as bad as what people on here make it out to be. Once they show up and realize it really IS as bad as what they were told, it's too late.

I left after almost ten years at Allegiant. It's one of the best decisions I ever made.

You assume that B6, WN, NK, AA, DL, UA, Alaska are banging down our doors for interviews...that's not the case. 7+ years of trying to get out of the regionals and I'm almost desperate enough to apply to Allegiant if only to get a narrow body type that might look more attractive to someplace I really want to work long term. For me, if I applied (and I haven't...yet), it would be a temporary stop in hopes UAL or DL called quickly. I'm thinking with so many RJ guys wanting legacy jobs, pilfering from your own feed is detrimental so they'd rather pilfer from competition like B6, etc.

Coming from a airline with a extremely hostile work environment due to 8+ years of CBA negotiations, I'm well aware of what I'd be getting into.

I could be wrong, but 10 yrs at a crappy regional has made me slightly crazy.

How exactly are people risking their careers and families by applying to Allegiant?

I, like most of you, wish people would stop applying so we could put more pressure on Management to work out a fair contract; but I'm all about honestly. Saying coming here is career suicide or implying that you're going to die or get divorced simply because you work for Allegiant is absurd.

What did you guys think getting a first contract was going to be like? We're almost 3 years into what is generally a very long process. You thought the company was going to roll over and give us everything we wanted right away??

Again, I wish people would stop applying only to help further our cause, but that's not reality. Fortunately, most people in this profession are pro union and don't want to alienate themselves from the pilot group. One more supporter... One more picketer.. One more person not to extend... We don't have a probationary period here so they can jump in and help from day 1.

I don't believe anyone mentioned dying, but getting pinked has become an overly common occurance, mostly because of inadequate resources invested in training and FAA oversight. Few pilots in other airlines feel the fear our guys feel going unprepared into recurrent checks. Many have been terminated as a consequence of crappy training. The Feds did shut training down. Bean counters cutting MD-80 systems to 5 days to save the new hotel costs. Feds answered by busting orals. AQP resources diverted to a video training program designed to save costs in new hire classes. FOs not seeing a sim for a year, walk into jeopardy events cold. Weeks ago we even had both capt and FO bust on the same event. Airbus training has been labeled a disaster and has suffered its share of casualties. The examples are everywhere and all boil down to sacrificing everything for the cost savings.

Family? Ask the guys that were sent TDY for months, some cases over a year, away from family, unable to commute.
