A better way would be to swap some 175s for 190s and just slowly wind down the regionals as staffing dictates. The wet dream some senior RJ captains have of getting into the top 10% of a mainline list is not going to happen.

I’d say they’re just more likely to just change the group numbers. RJ’s become 1, e195/220 become group 2 and everything just moves up 1 number. With new rates for the new group 1’s.

always, but they can agree to anything. …
fencing around the E195/220 protects seniority above/below. No super senior RJ guy can displace on the larger planes. No existing AA super senior guy can displace anybody on the RJ’s. The fenced plane, E190/220 would be open bidding strictly by AAG DOH. The bigger planes by AA DOH, the smaller RJ’s by DOH at the regional.
Anybody hired after signing has no fence protection. So, when everybody eventually retires you have one clean list.
The mechanism to hire was something along the lines of civilian or university only training goes to an RJ group 1, military or guys with 5 or more years 121 experience go to group 2 or 3.
that’s essentially the deal APA and EGL-ALPA worked out back in 2012-2013. AAG was presented with it and after some jiggering around said we had addressed all the issues they’d raised. They said get the FA’s and MX to do the same and it could happen. Then Jerry Glazzhole came demanding more concessions again from Envoy, and APA got bogged down in the SLI and CBA rewrite.

To make it not a “staple” per se. it protects the relative seniority of the RJ guys on what they brought into the merger and so you can tell a judge that you are taking their career expectations into account.

A staple doesn't work. Somebody will sue. Fed's may not even approve it. There hasn't been a straight staple in decades of SLI's. So, lets be realistic instead of thumping chests.
You make the E195/A220 the Gap jet with a fence around it. It becomes the new Group 2. The RJ's become the new group 1. All other existing groups move up one number.
Group 1 fenced from displacing any Group 3 and up.
Group 3 and up fenced from displacing Group 1
Group 2 bids actual DOH.
Fencing protection only for pilots on seniority list at DOS
Once everybody is retired it becomes one lift with no fences.
