You think anyone who doesn’t engage in nonsensical hyperbolic whining is a company apologist. Literally a regional so on and so forth. I just feel bad for anyone who actually seeks career advice and runs into the likes of you on here.

Im willing to bet you have some brutal commute on an RJ, which kills your schedule flexibility and bidding priorities, and it’s AA’s fault. Right?

bet $ you dont vote in apa elections, dont send soundoffs, think the last deal was great, call ops to fix other peoples problems, and you probably floated

Wait, I know you! Werent you the guy asking questions at the last crew news?? You better get going, litesaber just sent an alert and crew scheduling needs you to extend

Just your daily reminder that as a new hire at AA you get no 401K Match during your first year, and your year 2 pay bump does not occur until 16 to 18 months after your hire date (it will be your projected training completion date). That pay date stays with you for the rest of your career.

There's a difference between giving our honest experiences here and just whining. This is APC after all. But since OP is in the exact same boat I was in just one year I figured I had some good perspective to give. I gave both some negatives and positives about leaving ACMI vs staying. Then you read my negatives and tell ME that I should leave if I hate it so much! wtf? I'm not the one asking for advice nor am I planning on leaving. We are allowed to give out some of the negative aspects about working here. Sure I miss some aspects of ACMI. I miss some aspects of my regional fly into Podunkville. Hell, I miss flying a Cessna with a brand new student. Doesn't mean I want to go back to that.

Bottom line to the OP, there are good and bad things here. What you read on here is weighted to the negative side right now, for mainly one reason. We are in our 4th year negotiating. The company has tightened the screws on trip trading partly because of this. It’s also standard to get a negative narrative going for negotiating purposes. We have thousands of new hires that have only been here during negotiations. It’s all they know. The 2015 JCBA was the same way. Super negative, CA’s would ask me why I was there, etc, etc. guess what, after the contract was signed (even though it was ****ty), the atmosphere got a lot better…until the SLI, of course, but that’s done. 2019 rolled around, and I though “****, here we go again, gonna be unpleasant” and here we are.

Best thing to do is know the contract and find a niche that works for you, learn to improve your own QOL. Take the advice you get on here through a filter and be wary of people on either side that won’t concede a point, they are likely an anomaly. Also, read the book “Quit” by Annie Duke, it will help you make a logical choice and filter out the spurious. Probably worth some phone calls or in person discussion with folks that are here. Contracts are so nuanced, it’s really hard to get the real picture.

I think the short version is if you can get a Legacy job where you can drive to work, you should do that. Beyond that, the pluses and minuses of the Legacies aren't hard to research, and everyone has their own set of priorities.

AA will eventually get a contract (and that process would be accelerated if not for pilots applying for CKA positions, but I digress) that should be in the ballpark of DAL or UAL (when the latter gets one, probably before us) and will have its own pluses and minuses, just like any other contract.

Me, I'm 30 min from one of our larger hubs and it works for me. Still doing SCR, but did just have a 4 day block where I didn't get called. Was at home the entire time. Will that be the same in June? Not likely, but I'll deal with that when it comes.

Great piece of advice. Thank you! Thing is, I can’t stand running around the globe at all hours of the night, and I know I don’t want to do it for 25 more years.

I do commute, but there are a few domiciles that I could move to at some point if I had to once the kids are grown up. I commuted for 15 years at a previous regional, so I know what’s coming.

99% of people (outside of the forum) tell me that I’m crazy at this age to not go to a legacy. If I was 10 years older, maybe I have some things to think about.

I realize the forums don’t exactly bring out the most positive people, but I do like reading as much perspective as I can.

Just gotta get through the interview, first. Anyhow, thanks again for all the insight!

Man you just hate everyone whose critical of AA don’t ya? Honest question, do you foresee or aspire for a career in management at AA? Or are you already in that roll? Sure sounds like it.

AA is the lowest of the 3 legacies and I wouldn’t touch it if I didn’t live in base. However, like I’ve said before, if you live in one of our bases that aren’t offered by the other two, by all means come on over. Otherwise….you’re crazy to commute to this place.

Even with those you will not get hired as an experienced pilot at KLM. KLM academy or RNlAF is the only way.
