ACMI vs American
#101
Guys, as a new hire I have a question regarding that reserve stuff/days off:
My wife wants to move to Netherlands in 4 years from now (we also have European citizenship) and I’d like to know if is there any chance that with a 4 year seniority I can build my schedule to have 21/22 days off in the month (not in a row, of course)?
I’d be commuting from AMS back and forth to the USA and will get the base that gives me a better seniority (LGA most likely).
It might sound a crazy plan but depending on the days off I can get every month, it’d be feasible.

Man you just hate everyone whose critical of AA don’t ya? Honest question, do you foresee or aspire for a career in management at AA? Or are you already in that roll? Sure sounds like it.
AA is the lowest of the 3 legacies and I wouldn’t touch it if I didn’t live in base. However, like I’ve said before, if you live in one of our bases that aren’t offered by the other two, by all means come on over. Otherwise….you’re crazy to commute to this place.

And who are you kidding ny797. You better be counting your blessings that you had a flow. No one else is calling you.

Yes I’m management. Happy? I just don’t make things up like some of you. We have no works rules, this is a big regional, jumpseat reservation system doesn’t work, Eagle pilots prioritized over us when non-revving, crew rooms unsuitable, and these are just some of the examples. The list goes on and on. Everyone knows the issues that need fixed around here. Everyone and their wives, mothers, congressman etc. Do you think you’re profound by coming here and whining endlessly about getting reassigned? WE GET IT! The unions on it. It’s the focal point of our negotiations. You guys sound like little whiny babies.

Just a reminder: Those issues were also issues leading up to the last TA. That TA fixed almost none of said issues. The union told us they were "on it" back then too.
The company uses every tool available to them during negotiations. Do you think the pilots should too?

So everyone should be silent on these issues? Informing potential new hires to make a decision that isn't AA can only help our negotiations right?

Yes there are better options out there for new hires. No we aren’t a regional with zero work rules working like slaves. There’s an area called reality, and that’s where I prefer to hang out.

People should tell the truth. Not exaggerate or embellish. When you’re giving advice to someone who’s decision will likely be final for the next 30 years of their career, is it right to say, “hey it helps us in negotiations to deter new hires, even if we’re not exactly truthful”. Sorry I disagree. I’m the first one to point out our shortcomings, the mismanagement by AA execs and so on. However, what I won’t do is play some sick little game with some unsuspecting person’s future because I think it might put pressure on negotiations, sorry.

I did the reverse for almost 7 years. Lived in DC, worked for a Dutch ACMI in the EU. Early 2000. The only reason I lasted was because I knew it wasn't forever, and I was 30. And my company paid my travel expenses, so I could buy tickets if needed, or nonrev when the flights were good (family with benefits). Come summer time, last minute economy tickets would be $3K one way, so what are you going to do if you get extended for a day and want to go home. Jumpseat is not available international....
Jumpseat is not available International? Really? Even if that’s being in our own metal? That’s not What I heard many times before.
I heard even that as an AA pilot we can jumpseat international with DL an UA, now I dont know if it’s true or not.

AA can JS on AA international. I think the law changed possibly allowing interline cockpit jump international, but nobody really does it yet

Just your daily reminder that as a new hire at AA you get no 401K Match during your first year, and your year 2 pay bump does not occur until 16 to 18 months after your hire date (it will be your projected training completion date). That pay date stays with you for the rest of your career.

What I surmised from that beauty you just wrote us is that you’re AA management, we should all just shut up and be happy we’re here and quit whining like little babies because you said so…as an AA manager. Priceless!
I will continue to highlight the huge difference in QOL, pay, and above all respect shown to the average line pilot by the likes of you…an AA manager. Let someone choose their future based on that info. As I’ve said before, if you live in an AA base that is not offered at one of our competitors, come on over. Otherwise, you’re crazy to commute to this place for an entire career. This should be nothing more than a career pit stop for that person.
Any other attacks you want to embarrass yourself with? Otherwise, I’m a forgiving person and can accept your apology
