for me- I hated SC- I live “in base” and drive 3 hours to work. I realize we don’t have a specific time to show to work, but I couldn’t play that game. I don’t have it in me.

That first year, if I could have had LC or a line and flown up the day of or night before a sequence, it would have been way less stressful.

I’ll never go back to it. If it means staying in the right seat for an extra couple of years, so be it.

I also would have rather hit VMax every month than not get used. I’m here for the most money I can earn.

I don't have to as a junior captain I fly all the time. Usually I have a trip during DOTC the day before I go on. Pretty wild being on short call assigned trips 24 hours in advance sometimes.

It's very interesting that CAs fly almost twice as much on reserve as FOs.

Yeah, Ive been hearing that too. The junior CAs I fly with once in awhile are getting wrecked, especially SC.

I think this ties in with the above quote. Many way more senior CAs banging sick short-notice resulting in the SC CAs getting hit more than on the FO side, I think.

I’m sorry but a 3 hour drive does not exactly constitute living in base. No wonder you hated it.

That distance is probably the worst-case scenario, IMO. Too close for there to be regular mainline service but too far to be conveniently driveable.

I agree but also depends where you live. I'm 2:40 in the car to the lot but there are 10-11 Airbus AA mainline flights a day. I normally fly but sometimes drive.

The few times I've gotten transitioned to SC I just have everything packed and have shaved/showered and wait for the call. Risky but so far haven't been burned.

So far since RAS has started in Sept I've averaged 7.5 days a month working as a LC CA. Feb looks like a **** show though.

I start a trip this afternoon. It was assigned yesterday afternoon. After DOTC to me on short call. 10am rap. Somehow long calls weren't used, junior to me. I don't get it. Maybe I'll bid long call next month and see what happens. In the last few months I have only had a handful of assignments at or after my rap beginning. It's easily 90% the day or evening before I start my days on. From what I can tell pass all does nothing.
