How many of these guys waiting around might get called by UA or DL in the mean time? I think we may lose some good guys and gals by doing this. At least let them know if they got the job or not. People won't turn down a sure thing like an upcoming class date at another airline for an unknown on their status here. 5-7 months before going to class is a long time especially for someone well qualified. In that amount of time, we could easily lose them to our competitors.

I could very well end up being one of those guys. American is and has always been my first choice but it seems timing is not favorable for us off the street guys this year. I have an upcoming interview with Delta and I'll be more than ecstatic to join the Delta team and never look back.

Man I am going to get slammed for this but- while PBS is a major player, the real windfall for AA will be age 67. All of a sudden UAL and DAL will be overstaffed with the costs associated with that.
Huey you are right, our mgmt team are numbers guys. And this will be a huge number.

Just a thought, but maybe their answer to a decreasing pilot hiring resource is airline acquisition. With the looming pilot shortage outlook, airline mergers may be an answer and palatable to regulators. Let the chips settle and then look to acquire another airline.

If you look at the numbers, since the October LUS bid results, a net of 42 pilots have left on medical. Over the course of a year, that's about 100 pilots leaving for medical reasons.

True and that's some of what I was meaning, that not everyone was staying to 65. However, to add the folks that do punch before 60 would mean, to me, that most will retire before 65.

I'm extremely happy at Spirit, hope to be happier with the new contract.
I was commenting on some guys that thought getting this or getting that on their resume would prompt a call. Not to be egotistical, but I'm not really sure what more I could put on my resume that would help get a call from a legacy, and I haven't heard a thing. Except from United and I wasn't available to go to the interview. Haven't heard a peep from Delta and that's with three internal recs, haven't heard from American. I really attribute the call from a legacy carrier, right now, as a lot of luck, right place, right time. In a few years, that may change.
I let my AirlineApps account lapse, didn't want to have to pay for the fourth year if I wasn't going to hear from Delta, so the only app I currently have out there is American.
It would take something drastic to give up the quality of life I've got here at Spirit to leave to go to anywhere, but from what I'm reading, it may be a moot point since the guys who are in the pool at American are now being pushed back later. Good luck to them, hope they hear calls very soon, but I haven't even been asked to do the video interview, let alone the face to face.

I don't think he really cares about going to Delta, per his post. He got hired at Spirit 2-3 years ago and those apps were probably fresh at that point. I got the email from DL several months ago to update my app, but didn't because I'm fine where I'm at. Sounds like he's fine where he's at. I think those who got on at NK early enough to look forward to an upgrade to the left seat will probably be fine. The people who get hired there later may be stuck in the right seat for a long while if their growth plateaus.

Please do not reapply with DAL. We are currently hiring 115 pilots a month, and will continue to do so indefinitely. If you are too lazy to update you're resume at least once a month, then I for one do not want you on the property. Our last profit sharing check was 2 months pay, and our most junior Capt was hired in 2008. Good luck w/ "Neds Kids" and I hope americawest/american/usapa does actually give you a call.
