6 month to upgrade in a 190? Yeah...that seems reasonable. (GTFO!!!)

Reasonable or not, they were awarded it.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm just a knuckle dragger mil guy with 0 121 experience so I have an alibi.

Why wouldn't a new guy on the US side like going to the 190 with an upgrade possibly so quick. It's more the money question really, because I couldn't care less about moving over to the left seat. At least not right now. Seems like 130ish pay isn't so bad and movement up in seniority seems fast if you can move over to the left seat so quick. Holding a line quick?...

Again, naive new guy here just trying to learn the business so let the spears fly…looks like there is a high probability of going US in the next few classes so i'm trying to school myself up.

Thanks

The flip side is that a third year FO on a Group 2 aircraft (Airbus, 737, 80) will make about the same as that 190 CA, while arguably flying a better schedule.

Coupled with the fact that the 190 guys are going to be seat locked for 3 years (2+1) and the initial $20k (at most) you'd make before taxes that second year gets eaten up pretty quick. Also back on short call, sitting in a crashpad 18 days a month. Hmmm...tough choice!

It's a good pay gig for the first two years, especially the first year. Pay rate goes from $77/hr to $137. Third year w/b, or 6 yr n/b FO pay, catches up with 190 CA pay.

Next question, with zero 121 time do you want to upgrade in six months? Guy who's flown 121 before? Sure? No 121 experience? Single seat guy? Might be biting of more than you expect.

I'd recommend going to the group 2 aircraft (A320 at LUS). I was a single seat guy going straight to the airlines and you can get your feet wet and still make decent money years 2 and 3 in the Airbus.

Good info guys, thanks! I'm a single seat guy with a little crew time so everything in 121 is going to be a little overwhelming. I've got a lot of learning ahead of me. I'm a DFW dweller so getting to texas is key to our QOL. looks like June may be all US and July may have some AA in the mix. I think i'm in the next 12ish as an Oct poolie so here's to timing. Trying to see how long a 190 tour is going to be. the 190 contract thing was def key info.

For new hires on the US side, where does the training go? I know the indoc is in Dallas but after that I'm lost. Thanks.

You'll do 3 days of company orientation in Fort Worth (it's never Dallas..."another" airline is based in Dallas, we're in Ft. Worth). Then you'll do Basic Indoc in PHX and that's 2 weeks long. Then you'll be sent to CLT for ground school and sims. In the past some Airbus and 767 guys have been sent to PHX for sims due to backlog, but they try to keep everyone in CLT.

You'll get PS travel home on your days off. In PHX, they try to start class on Friday early so that everyone can catch flights home Friday afternoon.
