EF,

I have been on reserve for a long time here at LAA. Narrow body domestic FO and now Widebody international FO. I have only put one maybe two ass wipes on my list had it out with both of them after the trip. One had the arrogance to say that because I was on reserve we would have to fly together again, even though he made my list. The schedulers knew who the idiots were, both CA and FO. Whenever I got a trip on reserve, and had not looked up who the CA was, I would always ask who I was flying with. There were a few times where I said no way ain't gonna happen! I was given another trip, because this guys rep was known in scheds.

The chief pilots keep track of idiots like this too. They have files on these guys and have the do not pair lists printed out each month to see if there have been any changes. We can use professional standards as a starting point and that generally works pretty well.

This is a great job, but unfortunately some guys make it a pain in the ***!

A$$wipes are not exclusive to Captains. Ive flown with a few F/O's who think they are gods gift to _________ and while I have NEVER reported one to the Chief Pilots, I have had to "counsel" them on what the SOP's and the Company policy and procedures say about the issues. In short, just do what the Company tells you to do (in the Cockpit) and all is well. Also, while I am not the worlds most interesting (Wo)man (political correctness here would be "Flight deck crew member") I CAN say that I make sure my trip with whomever I do fly with is cordial and respectful and any difference of opinion is to err on the side of Safety. I also visit the CP regularly just to check in and give my condolences (to their office life) and make sure my file is clean.

No one knows how the SLI will turn out. Could be good for everyone with all the retirements on LUS side, and more choices on LAA side.
Hopefully, they will treat them equally as professionals and congratulate them on regaining their rightful place on the seniority list...

I realize there are ass wipes in all seats! This was about the guys in the left seat. I talk with captains all the time about other crew members, as I am sure other folks do too, and compare notes. CA's ask me if I had flown with so and so, the ones with the reputations are known in all seats. The office knows too. The CA has a recourse to flying with one of these troubled souls, that is to have that person removed. An FO has a few too. Call in sick or call the chief. So why should an FO have to use sick time so as not to fly with someone on their do not pair list? It can be challenging to fly a three, four or five day trip a person sitting less than three feet away from you, that just is not fun to be with!

^^ thanks. That's early than APA guys suspected. That's good news for the guys that want to switch bases.

If they have to switch equipment they'd take part in the Dec vacancy run which is final in mid Oct. Training would start in Nov, bid in new status in Nov, effective 1 Dec.

I'm sure it'll be professional. But rightful is an entirely different discussion. Probably best not to have it in the cockpit.

Oh, I hear you. So far I haven't been unlucky enough to be paired with someone I simply couldn't effectively function with. I've had some "interesting" personalities for sure (micro-managers, Alpha males on steroids, OCD and those who simply are oblivious as to how they're perceived by those they work with, etc.), but if I can't fly with someone they truly must excel at tooldom. I just didn't know to what degree reserves could make use of the policy. I'm sure in my case, it's simply a matter of time though.
