Apologies for not starting a new thread but APF will not allow it as I am a new user.
I am curious as to whether there is any ill feeling toward foreigners joining the company with a Work Visa. Completely understandable if that were the case. I am looking at pursuing the E-3 visa path, specifically with ATLAS, but would not like to end up at a company where I was not welcome or assumed to have 'stolen' a job as it were.
Perhaps a little contentious for a forum and not necessarily relevant for this one. PMs are welcome.

We currently have people who live abroad that gateway to work. Our new contract is still being finalized, so there may be some changes. Still I wouldn't anticiate too much trouble, especially from someplace like YYZ.
OR you have a permanent overseas address with a gateway of "XXX". Normally, the max price of a ticket they will pay for is about $450. I do a lot of overseas Alternate Travel, and it usually works. Some people jumpseat, to the US to start a trip. Others js to the US, and then the company buys them a ticket from the US, to where their trip starts. Some people use the zed fares to get to the US. Some of the time, I have asked to start overseas, so they often have changed my trip to start overseas, so then it is Deadhead travel, with a biz class ticket. The guys in the Phillipines were paying to fly to HKG, and the company was then either buying them a ticket to ANC, or DH them HKG-ANC. Most Asian pilots have an ANC base. Most Euro pilots have a JFK base. ORD also works well for overseas travel (like what I have).
My last overseas Alternate Travel: I ended in MEX. The company bought me a ticket MEX-ABQ, instead of flying me to my gateway. My last Alternate Travel overseas flight before MEX, I ended in MIA. The company bought me a ticket MIA-YYZ, for xmas. (Wife's family lived on the West side...Islington/Bloor area).
So, it is not as simple as having Gateway/Home Basing overseas, but it is doable, and many people live overseas. A lot also live overseas for Kalita.

For potential new hires. Just read of several candidates recommended by my fellow pilots, who failed the phone screen interview. Makes no sense to me, as I'm sure they were highly qualified.
If you don't make it through the hiring process, try again if you want, and do not take it personally. There are many, many times when there is no logical reason that highly qualified candidates
are not hired...and sometimes they are told they are not hired, but then they are, and/or they try again and are suddenly highly qualified and hired no problem.
To everyone out there, and especially those suffering as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, God Bless, and Namaste...

In the technical interview I definitely got asked about different crossings, controlling agencies (New York Radio, Gander, Shanwick, Santa Maria, Oakland) Using CPDLC, ADS etc. Explain crossings to Hawaii, give me a full position report at 30 West going east checking in with Gander and using CPDLC etc. Just look through the study guide they send, not rocket science if your have done it. Other focus was low vis taxi, takeoff mins, difference in a 10-9 versus 20-9 (none just two different airports in same city, example was Denver) crew actions at Hot spots, RVR takeoff mins, requirements with one out. Takeoff alternate requirements for 4 engine AC. Thought Process on rapid d, immediate and then other thoughts for rapid depress past ETP. When would you reject past V1.
HR was much more of a BS session, have good questions and be ready to explain first choice AC, why were etc. Whole second day took 1 hour each interview. Hope this helps, they want to hire yoiu so just be yourself!

It would appear the ratio of FO/CA resignations is heavily weighted towards relatively junior FO’s. Don’t come with the hope of a quick upgrade, already seeing lots of CA on CA flying on my fleet. Anything can change in the future tho.
