The bottom line is that most of the guys against this thing have no intention of ever going over there. The worst thing that would happen is a 1 month STV. Most guys are commuters around here..They are already gone 2 weeks a month....we are talking about an additional 2 weeks of your life that could open the door to some huge numbers being added to our seniority list. I'll take an STV if it comes up. One month in a hotel in Paris...have Grandma and Grandpa take care of the kids and my wife and I have a month to check out Paris. Not a bad deal. The LOA is far from perfect, if it turns out to be a really bad deal, fix it in the next CBA after we are doing all of the flying. That's when we can improve this. Go to the meetings with an open mind and think long term. Like I said before, I was a no vote and the meetings changed my tune.

I have addressed comments similar to yours in a post to capt mark. To claim that days off unpaid isn't a big deal is ludicrous. While you may only be speaking for yourself, the loa speaks for all of us. For example, what if all the grandparents are DEAD in my family?? What if it is during school. THen, my kids don't come. Could be the first Christmas with my new wife, or the last christmas with a dying father. Oh well, big deal...............

I'm not saying it's great. It's not. But I'll take the STV in the chest if it will get the expansion and growth of the seniorty list. You're right that everyone isn't lucky enough to have grandparents to help out to cover an STV. To me, it's just not that big of a deal. Maybe it's because I've (like many others) done 6 month deployments in the Navy....After you get a few of those shoved up your a$$, (no Navy jokes) this just doesn't get me too excited.

Purple,

Why did you get out of the navy? was it do to the deployments, was it due to better pay, was it due to controlling your own life?

You give up all of these with this LOA

I think DW's points lead to this as well. A one month STV for growth, is it painful, yes, is it doable, for the greater good...I would also haste to say yes. (sidenote, I've done the time away, and I have special needs kids too, and yeah, I am 30 from the bottom which means if it happens, I'm going). Do I want to do it, no, but will I... I think that is why I am on the fence now.

Haywood, do you think the company will be able to operate these FDA's with french labor law and keep there reliability at an acceptable level?

I don't, and am willing to take that chance by voting no. I won't let the company scare me into voting for a bad deal by threats about not doing the flying.

Yes I do believe the company is more than willing to deal with whatever labor laws. Whether it be UPS or Fedex, they will spend any type of capital just to say "We told you so".

Go to the meetings, talk to your reps, and then vote.

I vote yes.

You're right 6 month deployments were too much. By the way, they never end. In fact during the back half of my Navy life, I would have done many more than during my first 10 years. The STV bone is for the first 2 years of the opening for each type aircraft, then it's over. As far as the money thing goes, I view the potential for expansion and a more rapid move the the left seat of the MD as a big plus up in my paycheck. Again, I agree a forced STV would be a loss of control of my schedule for one bid month. It's a price I'm willing to pay if it comes to that.

Honestly, I don't think the company is willing to do that either. The question is, are we willing to risk that because we are not willing to give up the one month on an stv(which may or may not be used). I'm not saying this is a great, or a good deal. I think we are rolling the dice on that one...I can say that seven is the most comonly rolled number on the dice, but that doesn't mean I will put my paycheck on the pass line.

I just think there is a lot to consider here...is it a lesser of two evils, yeah, should we be dealing with evils...no.

Vote your mind, just be informed, and call your rep(don't email, it will may make you more emotional as it did me). That's what he's there for.

Sounds remarkably like the Irish pilots who were in our sims oh so long ago... Don't bite off on chaff and flares, keep your eye on the target. The only thing you need to worry about is do you feel this is an adequate package to move to two of the more expensive places on earth to live? Every new pilot they hire costs them a ton in medical, retirement and Soc Sec. If it was such a great deal to hire 'guys who lived over there', they would never had come to us in the first place.

Again, believe what's in writing, everything else is smoke and mirrors.
