Because the company can still be making money and furlough. Look at the mechanics from DFW / CAE. We aren't a passenger airline where that rule of thumb is prevalent.

Because they will do anything to keep making those profits with no regard what it does to any of us. That part of the equation is up to us. I was just reminded of this fact while reviewing some of the history of GM. They were making Billions of profits when they started closing plants and laying off UAW workers.

Where is it written that UPS has to lose money before they furlough? Companies exist to provide a return to their share holders. They are not in business to provide jobs.

But, I've changed my prior position, UPS has taken the first step towards staffing reduction.

I understand but everyone getting worked up over something that may or may not happen is foolish and a waste of time. Let's ***** about death and taxes, after all, we know that's a certainty for us all...

I agree that everyone is getting worked up, but that's understandable considering umemployment is the outcome (and the associated changes in ones life stemming from that). Hopefully this talk is motivating those at the bottom of the list to think about finding a safe place to land "SHOULD" the music stop.

Yeh, we at the bottom have our resumes out to all of the other good flying jobs that are hiring. Thanks for the advice. There are so many other jobs out there. Right? More realistically, let's figure out how to get over 60's to retire, which they can do now with no penalties.

How do you figure that it is no penalty to trade 300,000 a year plus bennies, pension contributions, and hopefully pension appreciation for our pension which would be at most $60k and dipping into a 401k for maybe another 80k? I can't even conceive of a number that the company could offer them as a buy out which would make them leave in any great numbers. 4 more years and that bump in the road should be passed.
