Historically, the realignment vacancy bid has always been in a period of growth, when the number of new positions exceeds the number of designated excess realigned positions. On this bid, the number of vacancies is exactly the same as the number of excess realignment positions, hence the 38 number.

The follow on displacement bid currently lists 48 Captains because they plan on reducing the total number of Captains by 10. So, even if all 38 excess Captains realigned (which won't happen), there will still be a follow on displacement bid of 10 Captains.

In pure vacancy bid, however, everyone could bid on vacancies.

Am I smoking crack or what? According to 14.F.4:
In a realignment vacancy bid there will be no transitions or
upgrades to excess vacancies.
No, actually anyone not in a training freeze is allowed to bid for these vacancies. However, if someone who is in a realign position bids off, that recurring vacancy will not be filled.

Yeah, it was just wishful thinking on my part I guess. I finally got an answer back from RK and it is as you said. Everyone can bid.

Typical liberal...short term/myopic thinking.

Roberto (not the photographer ) is already busy working on the age 70 rule change, so along with the other roads the Obama Pork Burrito won't actually fix, get ready for a rough ride.

So what will be the age cutoff on this vacancy bid for the almost 65 crowd? 64? 64 1/2? 64 3/4??? They kind of left it open-ended didn't they.

yeah, they're not gonna say exactly. You can bet 'they' have a number in mind, but why make it easy on the old guys? The company still has an idea that a bunch of 'em are 'afraid of glass' or 'afraid to train' and don't want to bypass them and pay CPT pay for nothing... of course, this logic hasn't proven true yet, but who knows...maybe some of the ones left on the panel won't make training. I can't believe it will be that many, based on what we've seen so far. A lot of the 'old wives tales' related to the over-60 crowd bidding back up front have absolutely NOT come true: they ARE willing to commute, they ARE making their commutes, they AREN'T dropping trips with sick days, they ARE picking up all the open time they can get (and JAs if ever possible). And they are very expensive. Lucky them.

Roberto...How many F/Es are eligible for these vacancies do you think? What will be the age cutoff based on your opinion? I know you have the intel on who's out on medical leave, etc. Thanks for your updates.

If this five year period goes by with no real issues, I don't think we should be surprised to see higher ages yet. I think we can strap ourselves in to the brace position with our butts held high
