I also got the same letter 6 weeks later-I'm guessing they didn't like my airline history-I went from Airborne to AA and had no rec's at UPS. To be honest, I've flown night frieght "It's awful" and not worth the extra money. I should be recalled to AA mid next year-it doesn't pay as much, but sure is a whole lot more fun. Good luck!!!

flyboydc9....
Everyone likes something different; I'm not surprised at your results either. I also would have questioned why you left airborne for aa then furloughed and wanting ups now? If your honest with yourself, it might have come through in the interview that you viewed ups as a "safety net" till your recall.
All for the best...you really want to be at aa and you're leaving room for someone who really wants to be at ups.
All the best and good luck,
Pilot7576

Ok, here's a neophyte question then, UPS is my dream job (like so many other pilots). But right now I'm at an industry leading small jet provider where I am really happy, but impatient to start the "next phase" of my career. There's no way that I'm going to be flying anything bigger than an E-145 for the foreseeable future with my current company. With 5000 total and 1300 jet PIC and one letter of rec on file how do I bring myself to the attention of HR? I realize people have waited for years to get hired at brown, but really how do your make your app shine with nothing but 4000 hours in an RJ? I really don't think another 1000-2000 hours in the RJ is really going to make me a better candidate tomorrow than I am today. Any suggestions?

Hi Pilot7576
I went to the UPS interview because of the reputation UPS has in the industry-I would never turn down an interview with such a respected company. It was fun flying the 76 sim and everyone I meet was very professional and extremely friendly. I did apply to them and AA at the same time "2000"-AA called first-never heard from UPS-that was at the same time Fedex offered me an interview "never went". In my opinion, if you're going to do night frieght UPS is the place to do it.

Network .......did I mention network with as many folks as you can.
If you never get the call what have you lost except the knowledge you gave it your best shot. Keep your nose to the grindstone and it will eventually payoff. Good luck........my 2 cents

But 7576pilot's comments about AA recalling and UPS being a "safety net" may have been in the back of HR's minds. I just wish they hadn't strung me along for almost 6 weeks and just canned me right away!

Flyboy and Turtle, sorry to hear about your experiences at UPS. Don't know what to tell you. I was in the same boat. Called by FedEx, DL and SW while I was on probation at AA in 00'. I do know that they are interviewing and hiring quite a few of our fellow furloughed AA bubbas. I never got the feeling that the folks in UPS HR viewed returning to AA as a "safety net" or held it against me. This place is turning into an ex-legacy club. I have seen AF friends who spent time at UA, DL, and NW in the month I've been here.
As far as the nights go, been there done that. My last year in LGA I flew as much at night as I did in the day. You can't fly int'l and fly just days, I don't care where you are AA or UPS. I'd love to be doing my Carib turns and 2 days again, but that life just doesn't exist anymore, at least not for a few more years if/after I came back anyway.
Let's all hope the best for AA. I loved my 4+ years there. I just feel amazingly fortunate that I have options now that I am here. Best of luck.

You have decent time, and a recommendation already. Now it's time to start attending the job fairs where UPS shows up at. Tell them how excited you are about flying for them, and that you're flying as much as you can to make yourself even more competitive. Then get your UPS contact reference to check on your status.
Hope that helps some. Good luck...
