Uncle. I don’t need another lecture on lanyards or being professional. Just because I found a little humor in this doesn’t mean I’m happy with the pace of events or that I’m not going to wear the lanyard (as I’ve been doing since I got it).

We can still apply some common sense to a situation and remain a “professional”, right?

Let’s say fire fighters felt it was important to wear a lanyard that says “Support your local fire department” and “We hate structure fires”. They wear it every day to work and even off duty around the community. It shows their fellow fire fighters as well as others they encounter a little about their priorities, unity and loyalty.

Do you think they need their lanyard to make all those things clear when the whole company actually shows up at a fire in their firefighting uniform, protective gear, in their fire truck, siren blaring and actually start fighting the fire?

My main point was only that I found lanyard ops slightly amusing and a bit of overkill at these picketing events. I'll still wear it, though. Sorry for my attempt at levity under such dire circumstances.

Oh, yeah, hey, I wonder if I should also remove my wings and my hat emblem, as they also identify me as a FedEx pilot. With those off, I'll feel less confrontational, as the average Joe driving down the street will have no idea who those guys are standing in front of that big FedEx building. They might mistake us for American Airlines pilots, yeah, that's the ticket.

What are the odds the picketing signs will identify our employer?

I didn't say anything about IDing our employer. I said the ID's are company property.

And while I'm not 100% sure that's the issue, I was just trying to figure out why we were asked not to wear them since we were not asked that before. At least I don't remember being asked that before.

Personally,
I think it's humorous that some folks had a cow about being told not to wear the lanyard....then another one when our union rapidly responded to the internet chatter and okayed the lanyard sans ID card

Do I know why? No, could be too concerned with security. Homeland Security Directive or concern. Don't know. It's one of those whatevers for me

Pretty confident the Company's going to know I'm involved, first time I'll be appearing at AOC in blazer anyways

These guys are like Joe Pesci.

"Funny how? What's funny about it? Like a clown? Do I amuse you?"

No matter what they see they're going to find a reason to be unhappy because they aren't directing the show. Didn't picket soon enough. Not picketing long enough. No lanyard. Lanyard but no ID. The signs are not strong enough. Picketing in the wrong location. Picketing on the wrong day. I live too far away to come in just to picket.

The list can go on forever.

It's amusing how the usual suspects on this board take another opportunity to question the MEC. Oh I can't wear my ID, boohoo the MEC doesn't want to be confrontational. Whatever. If my MEC and Negotiating Committee tells me to dress up as Harry Freakin' Potter and picket I'm gonna do it. Support your dam Union and do as asked for crying out loud.

All of us pay the union a fair amount of money for a service, wearing a lanyard or marching around in a circle does not constitute nor does it provide a substitute for the service we pay for, either negotiate or we can find another service provider.

Just that simple.

We don't need directions on how to dress or which circle to march in, we need concrete action directed at fair negotiations.
Do it or get replaced.
