I don’t think it’s a good thing but it’s nothing like the soul crushing event many here are claiming. Several years ago on the forum there were lots of people pushing for home basing and everyone seemed to think that was fine.
Home basing equals Virtual basing.
Home basing equals Virtual basing.

The combination of virtual basing and TDY if fully employed to the extent carmine showed it was practical would cost 47 jobs. VB alone was not 47 jobs and 1 VB base will be nothing close to 47 jobs.

You don’t get it. It’s a poorly worded LOA attached to our PWA. The implications in the FUTURE carry way more risk than the rewards are worth. The ocean crossing segment language will be removed. Then the company is gonna get ****ed off when MCO sick calls happen, so they’ll go after new sick language and cite difficulty with VB sick leave as the reason.
They are 2 PWA cycles ahead of us. I watched the exact same thing play out at a regional airline. “Oh it is so much cheaper to live in Albany than it is to live in the LGA area!” Fast forward a few years and the airline was 60% “outstation bases” and language was lost in a bargaining cycle under mediation about crew room requirements citing cost issues.
But regional guys know nothing. I’m done talking on this topic for now. I’ll just wait for the I told ya so part.

In an era of tough bargaining why give away anything if it's not necessary?

As to Mr. Bonds response above—or Captain Bond I presume, I have no chip on my shoulder sir. I am a few years in with multiple decades to go. I have no chip on my shoulder captain sir.
What I do have is a passion to see this industry continue with its turnaround. Both from a labor perspective as well as an overall company perspective. This job is amazing. We operate as an efficient machine right now.
See the post I quoted above. If ERflyer’s simple yet accurate comment doesn’t sink in with you I do not know what to tell you captain sir.
