my guess is they want to drag it out past summer and they feel this will do that.

We can't all just sit around waiting for the other airlines to get their contracts to bargain off of. UAL pilots I've spoken to seem to think "wait for Delta" is their big plan and support it.

I believe it's because the ask is out of the Zone of Reasonableness and they believe a Mediator confirming it to DALPA will restore productive discussions

The ask should be compared more with the pre bankruptcy contract than the current one. From the sound of it, the company's ask isn't anywhere near a zone of reasonableness itself.

Statements like this are embarrassing. You are actually fighting against our own negotiating strategy.

We’re not asking for a 10% raise.

If we’re asking for a 56% increase in retirement DC (16% going to 25%) PLUS the MBCBP lump sum, I will postulate that we’re asking for a 60% pay raise.

I'm not fighting against anything. Just expressing my opinion. The opinion of the Mediator is what will count. Just like how many on the forum had their opinion of what baseline Japan flying was for the Korean JV, the Arbitrator had a different one. Time will tell but based on the past history of this Admin I believe the Mediator will side with management.

For context, those numbers adjusted for inflation are roughly $300k and $6.6M. So pretty much what a "major captain" gets now working a normal line in a 22 year career.

I'm not really sure how that fits into your argument? I'm not trying to argue, I just don't understand what you're trying to say.

Maybe, maybe not. This is mediation not arbitration. It has no binding to it. We can still walk away. The company is trying to drag this out because this is the best economic environment to negotiate a contract ever. It does not hurt them to say let's pump the brakes and see what 6 months with Iran or the economy. I guarantee you that if some world event happened where bookings even went remotely down they would come running to the table poor mouthing.

Just for giggles run the C2k numbers adjusted for inflation. (those numbers were just slightly lower than we have now)

Maybe the company's Section 23 proposals were a complete non-starter, and well beyond the "zone of reasonableness" for our negotiators, but management is hoping that a mediator will side with them anyway.
