Just got my 1st class medical re-upped 20 minutes ago. The Doctor said
1. COVID is real (of course) but
2. The CDC et al have highly politicized covid. His adult son and daughter had it and recovered for example.
3. He did say its largely an airborne threat. Don't worry so much about surfaces and touching.

How is this "new" revelation going to bode for the airline industry? Put the final nail in the coffin? Or the light at the end of the tunnel?

There was an MD on the PBS Newshour a few weeks ago (sorry, I can't find a link.) He stated the same thing. We've wasted a lot of resources on sanitizing surfaces for no reason (although this can help mitigate other infections like the flu.)
The biggest threat is being in a crowded, enclosed space (elevators, waiting rooms ...)
An emphasis on external air or APU air at the gate would be a lot more effective.

I think if the airlines and particularly Delta in our case were a real covid vector the media would have been all over that like stink on crap, but they haven't. Which leads me to believe something about the airlines is working. Or possibly a combination of some things (plural on "things").
And yes I think we generally need to get on with life if we are young and healthy. The second third and fourth order consequences are too great.

The problem is until Delta has a high risk flight filled with old unhealthy people and a low risk flight with young healthy people for example, it's not possible to separate the consequences of infection and allow one to be mask free or otherwise getting on with life. Most people have enough empathy except college students to take precautions even if as individuals they are not at high risk.

People are stupid. This virus isn't that bad. I know at least 50 people that had it including my whole family. Out of all those, I know one person who went to the hospital with breathing problems. 2 days later he was released and had no more issues. The news is exaggerating the bad news as if it's the most likely outcome.
It's about power. Look at Michigan. The governor is furious that the courts ruled against her power. She's furious to find out she's not the king of Michigan she thought she was.

I remember one young woman. She was traveling alone, but she was most definitely a patient. It was obvious. The ports for the IVs etc obvious. As I was saying goodbyes to the pax she remained in her seat. When most had deplaned I walked over to her to ask her if she needed any assistance. She politely answered "no" then proceeded to remove her bag from the overhead (I helped) and then move on her way to the exit. I asked if she needed a chair as she was having a hard time walking, again she said politely "no, I got this". I stayed with her to the top of the jet bridge. Watched her walk away. I will never forget the fire and determination in her eyes. I hope to think she made it. I never did see her again on a flight to or from CLE.
We could do well to show bravery in the midst of this flu. Maybe as we refute the insane mandates we learn that, as always, life moves on. We live, we die. All of us will die. This thing is not insta-death. Yet our actions to it would make it seem justified in that extent.
Perhaps we reach our sanity again. That will be what saves us. Not a vaccine or some other draconian freedom sapping government mandate that usurps a process long established in this country.

I always enjoyed the legs to CLE. Seemed to always have folks heading to the Cleveland Clinic on it. Often got to talk to some of the pax heading there - true inspirational stories of bravery. This was in my -88 days.

Absolutely. +100. With the way the media and governments have handled this, one would think it was an extremely deadly disease. Granted it is for the elderly with pre existing conditions, most of the population has a death rate of 0.1-0.5%.
