You may not be able to beat it but it is still woefully lacking. 1 supercharger in my major city, 7 chargers and inconvenient location. more and more destination chargers are popping up but those are full because they are associated with parking. Until I drive past 6 on my way to work with open stations available for a quick 10 minute charge, home charging will be the norm and trips will require careful planning and reservations.

That sucks when even the super chargers are inconvenient. To goo thing is that there are adapters for Chademo and J1772. If Tesla made a CCS adapter then pretty much every charge station would be an option.

You get the J1772 adapter with the car, but CHADEMO is $500. They do really need a CCS adapter. Heck, all the Tesla’s in Europe are CCS because they’ve implemented a standard.

The price is down to 400 but the new EVGo network is installing Tesla cords.

Anybody have experience or info on the model S?

Contemplating a used one. Model years to avoid, ideal versions of it (70, 80, 85 or whatever it is they use), caveats, gotchas, etc.? Does the warranty transfer to a new owner as it would from one of the other auto manufacturers? I also thought I read somebody state that you might/could lose particular options?

No idea on warranty transfer. I bought my S new in 2018. By that time all new models were “D” 75D, P100D, etc indicating all-wheel drive. Older models may be 2 wheel drive. Only had one issue where the main screen went haywire about 6 months in. Fixed free of charge under warranty. Zero issues since. Crazy fun ride. Won’t regret it if you pull the trigger.

Yes we have a long range Model S and it’s a great car. Obviously the newer the vehicle the better they are in general since Tesla does an iterative process where they will introduce new features mid production cycle. Some of the big things to look for is the new front fascia. In 2016 they went from the old bullet nose to the current front end. This is where the bio defense mode starts and typically the improved autopilot system.

In 2019 they updated them to the Raven model which has improved air suspension and the model 3’s rear permanent magnet motor in to replace the small induction motor in the front. This allows true one pedal driving and improved efficiency and range.

The seats are better on the newer cars but there are some older cars with ventilation in the seats. If that’s important.

Generally I would find the the newest version both the longest range in your price range.

Tesla keeps the options with the cars unless you are buying a used car directly from Tesla or a car Tesla took in trade and auctioned. They will in those cases remove or add software options as suits them but they tell you what your getting. Specifically we are talking about advanced autopilot, full self drive and performance increase. There was some news where they took the FSD away from owners who had purchased the car with the option working but the prior owner had never paid for it. They ran a audit and found a bunch of cars had it by mistake. They removed it regardless of who owned the car. It’s not likely to be a issue now.

Thanks for the replies so far folks.

20Fathoms: A model S that caught my attention is a 2018 with low miles. Should still have some factory warranty if what I read regarding 4 year/50k warranties was accurate, and providing that telsa honors the warranty to subsequent owners.

Falcon20: thanks for the info. I'm torn on whether I like the older or newer nose. Is bio defense an option or standard? Sounds like something to prepare for the zombie apocalypse, ha.

Sailingfun: that sounds a little better, but it is still "disappointing" to hear that tesla would take away a feature from a subsequent owner that purchased it with that option installed. Especially since it appears that it was tesla's mistake in the first place to have included it if the first buyer didn't pay for it. Optics/culture and all that.....

Default Have you seen the "refresh" models?

Since the "refresh" the older cars seem to have taken a $10,000 hit.

None of the "refresh" cars have been reviewed yet. Be interesting to see just what has changed and what hasn't. The new cars did not get the new 4680 cells yet. Seems the Semi, CyberTruck and Texas-built Model Y will be the first.

CAN NOT WAIT for the CyberTruck, taking Texas delivery, and going nuts in the 2,500-acre playground.
